Who are your 18? I have 16 :-
Birighitti, Sözer, Hall, Rowles, Tongyik, Miller, Roux, Bozanic, Nisbet, Muller, Smith, Moresche, Simon, Urena, Goddard & Nkololo

I have Farrell, Balard, Hatch & Tsekenis as the 4 scholarship players and Steele as one of many NPL players that may feature this year. The bolded players have been announced as scholarship players I believe. Farrell has been quoted by MarinerMick as having a senior contract - but I haven't seen anything official at all. If so he would be the 17th senior player
So it looks like Jacob is a full contract, bringing the senior squad to 17 and the scholarships dropping to 3 (20 players in total). The club's site does not mention Tsekenis so only lists 19 players (I hope he is still around).

Balard is listed as a defender. So we have 2 keepers, 9 defenders, 4 midfielders and 4 forwards. I would say that Dan and Max are also seen as cover for central midfield.

So if Damien is still hear we have 1 senior player and 1 scholarship spot in the budget (or possibly a 2 cheap squaddies).

I think that is his problem. Both in his club football and with the junior NTs he has played in a number of areas. RB, RW, RM, LW, LM, CM DM, CAM and CS.

To be honest I would have him for exactly that reason. Not the best in any position - but not a weak link wherever he is put - a true utility player.
Exactly this. You've got a guy on the bench that can basically fulfil to some degree any game situation you find yourself in. Points moot now anyway.

Tsekenis played against Wellington on Tuesday so you would assume he is still around

Has he excelled at any of them though? With our budget I fee like you need to have a primary position still if you want to be a utility player. And that’s even assuming he’s willing to accept the money and bench spot you’re talking about for a squaddie. Don’t have anything against the bloke I just struggle to see how to get the bang for our buck if we re-signed him.

And that's why I said it is his problem. He hasn't excelled in any position - but his versatility is his vice. He has been used to fill holes and has never been given a choice to make a position his own. Because of this he would only ever be seen as a squaddie. He needs to go somewhere where the manager uses him in a constant position and see if he can cut it. He is nominally a CM - but I don't think I have ever seen him play there except for a portion of an Olyroos game.

I thought Bouman was best utilised as an impact sub to run at tired defenders. That Macarthur away win prime example where he got in behind and set up the Smylie goal.

Certainly wasn't the quickest player but he was useful In that role. I was fine with him staying around but also not heaps fussed with him leaving.
You could also argue the allure of Alou wouldn't have been what it was if he didn't also set up his winner against Western with an amazing turn and pinpoint cross. Those 2 wins kept our team momentum going in games where it looked like we were going to lose or at least only take one point. Instead, in part due to Bouman we took all 3.

Also, just thinking more on this, a guy that is by definition a CM, is best remembered as someone who did his best work in attack on the wings. Something that isn't his forte. That speaks volumes.

The good old mariner’s “let’s play him on the wing” strikes again!
Served Duke well. However you have to wonder what his trajectory could have been without spending that time being a square peg in a round hole for us. Suppose it got him a transfer though didn't it
