First hit out with new coach and many new players. Running in that wind would take its toll. Superb finish by Beni. Was waiting for him to try and blast it across the keeper and then was shocked when he placed it with left foot to the far corner. Didn't matter now how shit the game was you'll only see the result from here on

Wasn't a great performance but a win is a win. Urena was really off today, I hope he improves for next week. Compared to City vs South we struggled to control every aspect of the game, but maybe that was the conditions. Will give the visa players time to settle in but none of them set the world on fire today.

Just quietly it was a very nice finish by beni.
I agree with others saying he was a little underwhelming, he’ll improve though and did show glimpses. I do hope Simmo and Urena won’t be the regular strikers (Urena was extremely poor overall) and really hope that isn’t our go to formation all the time. Yeah ofcourse Blacktown parked the bus for the majority but we lacked ideas pretty quickly.

Urena looks like last year… he has some amazing through balls and vision, but looks for every option of unloading before thinking of taking a shot. He is so amazingly hesitant to shoot for a striker of that caliber. I wonder if him trying to be a leader and helping others is taking away his ruthlessness.

I know its early in the season and some players are still finding their feet
but Benni looked a bit like Usain Bolt the way he tried to control the ball and the way he turned etc.
He scored a good goal but other than that he looked more like "Unco-lolo".
I sincerely hope he improves...

I've go to agree. Sorry we didn't see more of Cy or Moresche

The game was pretty physical with lots of holding and pushing in the back. Ref let most of it go that advantaged them more than us. Blacktown played a very spoiling game.

I thought the tactics were wrong for the conditions. The wingers and Matt and Marco were all playing off defenders shoulders asking for through balls. Unfortunately with the wind this was an almost impossible challenge. Also many excellent runs and calls for balls there were ignored or mistimed. These runs may not have been obvious on tv.
Birraz did not have to do a lot.
Miller looks and moves like a centre back. I saw enough to say no more fullback for him.
Rowles was very good.
Storm worked hard but just seemed half a beat off the pace.
Farrell, though young, impressed me.
Ollie made a couple of mistakes but was the best player on the pitch for mine. He was an enormous jump in class compared to everyone else on the pitch.
Max Ballard fitted in and looks to be the DM that others are saying we need in addition to Nizz and Ollie
Nizz was great, as always, but wing is not the position for him. He is wasted there and needs to be positioned more centrally. We have plenty of wingers, he can make Max work for the DM position.
I really liked Benny. He is still very raw but is strong and fast. As his touch improves and he fits in he will be good. Willing to work his butt off.
Urena worked hard but was off the pace and his touch was not working. I am putting it down to the conditions not suiting him. He can be a lot better.
Matt played some good balls , but neither he nor Marco ever really looked like a threat up front.
The subs seemed, if anything, to disrupt our defensive structure. They were attackers and came on when we were closing the game down. I would have preferred Dan Hall to come on but Monty must have had a reason. Maybe it was a pre game plan to hit Blacktown as they tired, but as it was when they were a goal down they threw everything at us and were nearly successful.
Early days and happy to take a scrappy win.

I’m just super glad we won. It’s been very decent viewing on 10 Play - a flood of football. How lucky were we to have Simon Hill call our match? Seriously, for a FFA Cup game, his presence was brilliant. Cheers Mariners fans who made the journey west.
