Round 3 v Shambles FC

Really impressed with Moresche. Will be a great addition to the Simon Urena pairing.
I think next game Hall must start in place of Tongyik, Miller for Roux, Beni to the wing and Niz into midfield.
Birazz
Miller, Hall, Rowles, Fazz
Cy, Niz, Boz, Beni
Urena, Moresche
Then Boz can stay deeper and Niz can chase and press. Wouldn't mind Tongyik in midfield in place if Nizzy either.
This nails it for mine. (Except Tongyik to mids)

A thoroughly luckless game. Another day we win that at least 3 -1. Truth is no one had their shooting boots on. Marcos looked very off to begin with, though later in the game he started working the keeper much better. But how's the luck... Moresche standing on the ball, headers to the keeper, Oli still can't get one on target and Marcos just can't buy a goal atm.

I'm hoping Beni and Cy can now start wide against Sydney because though I'm impressed by Steele and Ballard, it's clear Niz offers another level of class over them and we need another outlet beside Olit start and build our attacks imo.

Agree with what others have said, Ruon must figure it out and until he does Hall should start and I prefer Miller. Brain snaps aside, he clearly makes us more dangerous and we lose nothing defensively.

Birazz
Miller, Hall, Rowles, Fazz
Cy, Niz, Boz, Beni
Urena, Moresche

As SM posted, that's our best 11 right now for mine.

He only has four of five games to come good then.
Was wondering if Monty dragged him for not having his head in the game and the pod boys are saying someone is leaving and I thought the only candidate would be Roun so maybe this is what you are hinting at

Steele I thought was excellent until about the 60th when he ran out of gas. He started grabbing players and missing passes which was the signs of tiredness.

Especially as it was his first A League start and that was on the back of the FFA Cup.

We and Monty especially need to remember it’s a big jump for a couple of the young lads. We’ve seen Farrell struggle with crap over the first few games but finally playing 90 now.

Think Steele should have been subbed but with the goalie issue you can understand why not.

When Oli retires or moves on we have a pair in Ballard and Steele that could control the midfield for years to come.

You saw the steam go out of the team somewhere in the 2nd half which made a tonne of sense as it was the 3rd game in 8 days. On Wednesday they fought tooth and nail with 10 men for most of the game too.

It was a shame to lose to those fuksticks and a loss wasn't deserved - but you don't win games without scoring and that's where we need to sharpen.

I think if fresh we win that comfortably. I'm happy with every player for the most part, Roux has the holes in his game that I complained about when we re-signed him, but they haven't been as glaring as I expected.

I like this team and this coach. They fight, are enjoyable to watch, and with experience and fitness increasing will 100% win games. Confident of making the finals this year for sure.

Yes - it was a tired display and a match I think we would have won if fresh. However, I was not happy for the most part with most of the players. While we dominated for large periods we also did a lot wrong (again the tiredness is probably the cause of a lot of this).

We will be better and I think Monty has tried to keep us as fresh as he can but there are only so many options.

When did Caruso come on? Is Souzar done for the season?

What an unfortunate series of events that all started with the incident vs Wollongong

If he is we need to look at an injury replacement from the NPL. Our backup was ok but not up to scratch and will cost us points in the long run. There's been a number of decent efforts in the FFA cup from keepers that might welcome the opportunity.

I feel for Monty, he hasn't had a lucky break yet. Key injuries from the start of the season, Birraz red card and Sozer snapping his hammy 20mins into his first start and then relying on a 17 yr old between the sticks for 70 mins, 3 away games in a row and dealing with poor weather conditions for games and training.

I'm starting to worry the lack of goal scoring is because they are trying too hard and getting frustrated. Kurto saved the Cows bacon yesterday however some of our shots were poor quality whilst on target. 3 points from 9 is not a great start. Just seems like the Mariners of old, try hard but don't have the polish to get something out of a game (last season now a distant memory). We really should have got something out of the Nix game and definitely this one. With a young team confidence can drop very quickly so Monty has a challenge on his hands and with some of our experienced players not available for a while yet it is not going to help our cause.

Ref was not great however he didn't lose us the game. Roux was poor and we were saved by Najjar's poor shooting in the first half. DDS had a field day with our tired players and we gave him way too much room and freedom, we of all teams should know that is when he is the most dangerous. Bread Rowles was our clear MOM and it was a credit to our defence that young Carruso was protected. The midweek Cup game clearly impacted our performance and took a lot out of us mentally.

Last week people put some blame on Farrell for the deflected goal, Oli's was 100 times worst as the Mexican shanked it massively and no one was putting pressure on him. Oli did nothing memorable in that game and probably should have been rested in the second half. Steele looked the better in my opinion and worked hard. I'm a bit over Oli dictating our attack but with no 10 what else can we expect although Moresche created some good attacking plays. I wonder if Muller will be any better as a 10 when eventually fit because we really need one. Seems we don't know who is our 10 and who is our striker, Urena is not a striker and needs to be more of a play maker like his assist for Nizzy in Rd 1.

If we cannot turn CCS into a fortress with our run of four home games in December we will be in serious trouble for the season. Critical month ahead and Birraz better keep his head and not get injured as Sozer will be out for a while. We don't want to be relying on a 17 yr old keeper too often.

Just don't see it happening, we don't do injury replacements for key players let alone spending on a back up keeper. I bet we take the risk on Birraz. An NPL keeper would still cost more than minimums especially if they are the starting keeper at their NPL team.

Agreed. All the decent NPL keepers are at an age where they won’t come to the A-League for minimum or near minimum wage.

They have families to support and are currently getting around a grand a week playing NPL as well as being able to maintain a full time job.

My nephew plays NPL and between football and his accounting job earns more than most of the Mariners players.

More than anything else we need to support this team....

I read on another thread that 11 players are from our academy in our squad and five of those eleven are locals....

Unlike previous coaches we are not losing badly ... we are competitive...

As everyone has said its our inability to score that's costing us....

My only concern is the number of injuries, especially coming out of training... I assume they are revisiting programs as last year we had a great run...

Anyone got an update on squad injuries ...

Hoping for a decent turn out and facing South Gosford when they need a win...

Are you suggesting we are not supporting the team here?
