Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

On the Ollie situation, putting on my Sherlock Holmes hat and putting 2 and 2 together I have come up with iv (Roman centurion saying).
The clues:
It is a personal matter of Ollie's (Monty's presser).
Started after we signed Cummings. Could it be a player personality clash (FP post).
Matty and Ollie have been sitting together at all games (possibly good friends).
Matty and Monty were the leadership power in the dressing room last year when Staj and the Club decided it was time to part ways.
Matty has been training for a while.

Suspicion.
Ollie wants Matty back in the active squad, on the bench at least.
Monty has said Matty's time is done and he would rather start Marco and Cummings with Kuol and Moresche as subs as they were young and hopefully the future and maybe said that Matty was not in his plans and would be unlikely to be picked again.
Turned into an argument and possibly became heated at which point Ollie may have stated that If Matty is not picked, he would not play.
Both parties have painted themselves into an impossible corner were neither thinks they can back down.
Total silence from all concerned as nobody wants to cause damage to the Club not Matty's reputation or future with the Club.
It is not upsetting the team, judging by last night's performance.

Too many alpha males.

True, and we've all seen cases where the lines have clearly been drawn from the wrong position on the body.

But at least offside is mostly objective, rather than this YC/RC one.

The VAR protocol states:

  • The VAR automatically ‘checks’ the TV camera footage for every potential or actual goal, penalty or direct red card decision/incident, or a case of mistaken identity, using different camera angles and replay speeds

I think we need to get past this idea of 'oh, the commentators weren't talking about VAR checks/there wasn't the logo on the screen so the VAR didn't actually look at it'. No, VAR looked at it and decided it didn't warrant intervention. People say it all the time with penalties and things 'oh, VAR didn't even look at it'. No, they did, just didn't think it warranted intervention.

When there's only 1 thing to look at...yes, VAR checked it. VAR will check many, many more things than we see as fans (which is part of the reason why they can have aVAR too).

Where I have no faith - and again, communication - is when you have multiple incidents in one play - eg and while they should, for instance, be reviewing the potential offside in the leadup to the penalty they're reviewing, I feel that's an area of concern - and again, communication is needed. Or when you have several potential incidents prior to a goal - we can assume they checked the buildup, but if you have 3 potential fouls, the VAR may only really have noticed and checked 2.

But, did I mention, communication?

I'm sure those on here who think it was offside would actually prefer to be proven wrong, rather than carrying the frustration of thinking we got screwed over another goal.

Though the broadcast editing this season is utterly atrocious, far, far worse than anything under Foxtel. Key incidents often don't get a second look by the broadcasters. I don't think that's conspiracy - it's just absolute incompetence.

We always had that problem to some extent with Foxtel, but it's increased tenfold now. It's like the editor doesn't know the sport at all.
Well said and totally agree that it is P-. The whole advertising during play debacle at the beginning of the season to stupid XG's and a lack of proper replays. I feel they are running every broadcast on the cheap and with minimal staff, no one is employed to capture and replay critical moments. It's the same every game every week no matter who plays.

There is no way Millers incident was a clear and obvious error by Abrahams who initially looked content with the YC until KGJ got in his ear. By all accounts the RC should have had the desired effect of killing us off and the Drive Byes stay in contention for the finals. So good to Rudan's face after that game, almost as good as Corrica.

I hope Matty does get his send off as he deserves it. Main question is will it be the last game of the season (home derby) or do we see him before? Surely he can't go round again for us after missing a whole season.

Nope.
Been asked and answered on here a few times.

Really simple. He is trying to hold the club to ransom and they have held firm.

Apart from the great comeback against all the odds( shit ref, shit VAR and shit opposition) the best thing about last night was how Beni stood up and was a leader. Also Cummings harried and bustled their defenders and they lost their cool.
Just maybe the extra responsibility Monty is giving him is making him a better player ... would not be the first player to react this way.

I would guess #2 but possibly #3 after this long I doubt he will give in.
I doubt the Club would be able to afford his current salary on a future contract let alone a bigger one.

Not known are the key issues....

I suspect and it was talked about re players with an anti vax stance... and if true Oliie was in the anti vax camp....resulting in he could not travel interstate until recently.. That would also explain his not travelling to NZ...

Further, if true, Ollie tried to convince others of his values...

No doubt friction would have followed.... this friction depending on egos and beliefs can be very destructive....

My guess is this was the start and its lead into other areas as these things are always difficult to contain into a single box...

My assumption is there are now a number of things on the table and barriers may exist ...

Regardless the players seem to all be behind Monty... in all this I feel for Farrel as he could use Monty' s guidance and knowledge during the game... and remember Ollie has 8 caps for the Socceroos as a left mid.

My hope is whatever the issues between the various sides that we can sort it out internally and Olly stays... if not no person be that Monty or Olly is bigger than the club ... so management may need to step in...

On last night's game.
Beni my man of the match.
I am getting frustrated with Marco taking too many touches and losing the ball happening too often.
I would like to see a poacher and one striker rather than two strikers, If you know what I mean.
Whatever we need a midfield to provide the balls for them to score.
The defence was much better last night, but the opposition was pretty ordinary.
Ballard is much better than Steele partnering Nizz in the centre, but I would really like a beast next to him.
Impressed with Roux when he came on, his best performance for ages, looked determined and hungry.
Moresche also impressed with his enthusiasm and positioning. I think he could develop into something special if he stays on his feet a bit more. More game time needed.
Even Goddard put himself about and provides lovely balls from set pieces. He must start before Muller.
Muller I thought was missing in action both in attack and defence far to often. I was too often left wondering where our winger was when play was down his side. He is definitely not a worker more a showboat. Probably needs a mirror on the sideline so he can check how good he looks.

Very impressed by the guts to come back and salvage the point. We have been asking for a team we can be proud of no matter the result.
We have it.

Goddard had a great cameo but looked far from fit, his set pieces are amazing though

I’ve read it all but tbh there was never a clear ‘this is the situation’ from those in the know. Lots of speculation and it seems like you’re saying the appearances trigger contract extension is legit and the real issue? Club aren’t willing to trigger it at his current wage (or whatever the extension is paid at) and he’s rejected an alternative deal for next season that would allow him to keep playing this season and void the trigger. Is that on the money or was it really lizard people?
