ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

My money is on Kelechi Jean, as he seems to fit all the clues to date……
Only clue that doesn't fit is a pretty key one - we have been told we are getting an "experienced" centre back. This guy has played 55 games in the Portuguese 2nd tier - and quite a few of those off the bench.

I’m not sure if we did get told ‘experienced’, I remember Monty saying ‘played at a high level’? Might have missed something though.

Just listened back and you are right, he did just say "high level" (I wouldn't have counted Portuguese tier 2 in that category)

He separately said when talking about both of the defenders he was bringing in that we would have strength in depth and experience at the back. Kaltak played quite a few years in Vanuatu before his 49 games for Auckland, but again, not quite what I was envisioning for "experience"

Not saying you are wrong btw - Kerechi was such an obscure name to have in the word grid if he wasn't on our radar (and one helluva pick up by yourself).

Just saying I think we have been somewhat oversold if Kerechi and Kaltak are the extent of the defensive signings and somewhat underdone on what we need

Yeah I agree. They seem like traditional mariners signings, not ‘new era, new budget’ signings.

Whilst he might not be the ‘big name’ some folks were looking for, do we not trust Monty and Serge’s instincts for spotting real talent from so-called ‘lesser’ leagues (like Beni for example)?

Bar Goddard’s failure to suit the style of the A League, they have pretty much nailed it with the other players they bought in previously imho, so it only seems fair to give this signing and that of Kaltak a chance to show their worth.

Also bear in mind that no-one really knew who Broich, Berisha and Ninkovic (plus numerous others) were before they came to the league.

Portuguese second division is not a high level
I disagree.
Not a high level financially obviously, neither is the top tier bar the big 3.
BUT, there are some verrrrrrry good and massively underrated players playing in both their leagues atm.

whilst Kelechi isn’t the “experienced” player we expected, I have a feeling he’s what we needed. And he’ll surprise a lot of us. Good age again, physical specimen. Decent on the ball. Wait and see. I’d be genuinely annoyed if Monty signs Kaltak now.

side note, shits me to tears that just because a player coming to Australia didn’t play in a highly televised league (England, Spain, Germany etc) they’re instantly shit or who the f**k is this what a joke.
