I love a conspiracy theory, Faghani was clearly different in the two halves and the only noticeable change was Arzani came on at half time. Commentators even mentioned how it was nice to see two Iranians involved in the same match. Then they got something like six free kicks in a row in about 10 mins more than the whole first half. Tùlio gets carded for questioning the most blatant dive in the box I’ve seen and if either of those two late challenges in their box where at the other end they would have been given as pens I have no doubt.

I think it was a great away win and again against poor officiating. I really start to dread second halves as this seems to be when the officiating issues step up a notch.

The pitch seemed to play funny. Looked slow and this may explain some of the scuffed shots and poor ball control. The delayed bus trip probably would have had more impact on a Mariners team of old.

3 points on now on to the windy city.

My player ratings (May be slightly dodgy as first half was watched with a grumpy 10 month old and second half was watched with a hyperactive five year old):

Danny Vukovic: 7.5, Made some terrific game altering saves but also almost gave away a goal. The good far outweighed the couple of errors though and probably his best game since returning.

Storm Roux: 8, Worked hard providing attacking support and was very reliable defensively.

Brian Kaltak: 8, Was probably our most consistent player across the 90 minutes and played at a great intensity.

Nectar Triantis: 6, Good positioning throughout the game and repelled some dangerous attacks. Lost his composure on the ball in the second half and looked just to hack the ball forward. Good learning experience for a quality young player.

Jacob Farrell 7, Similar to Storm worked hard forward and back but was a player that noticeably dropped off in the second half. Provided good support to Sam Silvera.

Josh Nisbet: 8, Another great performance from our mini Pirlo. Was tightly marked by Macarthur to heap pressure onto Harry Steele which he handled superbly. Broke up countless dangerous Macarthur attacks and probably prevented Jed Drew scoring with his recovery defensive effort.

Harry Steele: 5, Not his best game in Yellow & Navy but was clearly targeted by the Bulls' press. Had a shaky first 15 minutes and then adapted. Still managed to link and break up play but a couple of his errors could have easily led to goals.

Beni Nkololo: 7, Was a force in the first half but largely invisible in the second. Worked incredibly hard defensively in the first half to negate Toure and ensure that Storm wasn't isolated. Hopefully can maintain the first half intensity for a full ninety against the 'Nix.

Sam Silvera: 8, Was instrumental in the first goal and could have had at least two more assists, if not for some slightly over hit passes. Tracked back defensively terrifically in the first half and ensured that Jed Drew couldn't isolate Jacob Farrell. Hope his injury isn't serious as he is quickly becoming an integral member of our side.

Jason Cummings: 9, Played more of a 10 than a 9 role throughout the game, akin to Urena last season. Worked exceptionally hard defensively, and while he got lucky for the assist to Tùlio he more than deserved it. Fantastic finish on his non preferred right foot too and could have easily had at least one more.

Marco Tùlio: 8, Terrific composed finish past one of the best keepers in the league. Add some truly magical moments and was electric in the first half. Faded in the second half but playing more as a 9 suited him.

Subs:

Max Balard 7, Came on and steadied our midfield and helped us wrestle back some control of the game. One of our better second half performers.

Michael Ruhs: 6, Wasn't quite as effective as he has been earlier in the season but still did enough to keep Macarthur on their toes. defensively.

Paul Ayongo: 5.5, Clearly still getting back to full fitness and showed a bit of rust. Probably should have had a penalty off Aspro. While he probably should have had a penalty a better and easier option was to slide the ball to either of the two players waiting for a tap in.

Thomas Aquilina 6, Got himself in decent positions and drove Macarthur back in his limited game time.

Monty: 9, Tactically dominated Dwight Yorke and neutralised nearly all of Macarthur's attacking threats with a good game plan. Especially impressive after the bus debacle before the game.

My 3 points:

3: Jason Cummings
2: Brian Kaltak
1: Marco Tùlio

Oh the A league... how bloody dull and exhausting it is to be perpetually talking about referees. But how can you not?

We've had many far worse refereed games in terms of influencing results and outright bias against us, but in terms of general overall referring... that performance. Dear lord. That was special. I don't think I've ever witnessed anyone, ever, make so many obvious refereeing errors in the one game - even by Faghani's standards he truly levelled up.

The cows were the first to really try to just blatantly use this to their advantage in that second half. And it worked. Game should have already been over, and we quickly grew frustrated, which in Faghani's mind equals questioning his power, so then we started paying the price for that too.

We couldn't play our game anymore, and we couldn't look to control the ball and kill the game either. You could literally just be bundled over anywhere by the most blatant of fouls and it could be no worries play on and goal. Pretty bloody unsettling for the players. This was compounded by the Cows being whipped into a fury by Yorke at half time and then playing to use Faghani's 'refereeing style' intentionally, smart maybe, but it was shit football methcows. And lastly of course... there was us coming out a bit flat.

Our attackers who in build up play were generally outstanding, unfortunately placed us under a lot of unnecessary pressure in that game by not finishing the cows off when they absolutely should have. I think we expended a huge amount of energy in that first half. Physically, but also mentally. We broke so fast and so well. So many waves of support charging through in attack. Tracked back like demons. And across the park closed down furiously. And also played some of the most inspired football creatively I've ever seen us play.

All that takes a lot of energy. And you could see the mental fatigue slam in at something like 38 minutes and suddenly the team stringing together the most elaborate multi pass plays, struggled to even trap simple balls and make passes for a few minutes.

Maybe it was the delayed trip... can't have helped, but regardless most sides/athletes you watch will flatten after putting in so much effort in a first half like that. It was a very high level of play, 80% of that first half was probably better than any side has put together this season imo. But when we choked in our execution so many times it gave the cows a chance to get back in if they could simply just snag one.

Dangerous team. Some great players and Yorke is a very good coach it seems. But first half, my lord we monstered them. Second half, based on all of the above, was basically a write off for me. Like a strange fever dream you're just glad to wake up from and for it to be over. Some of it that was on our strikers as said, but really far too many things going against the players to feel unhappy about their drop in performance level in the second half.

However, flat or not, ripped off or not, our fight and belief always remained and THAT is bloody excellent, and was enough to get us a win in the kind of game we typically NEVER, EVER, come home with 3 points form. Great season to date. Lots more to come.

Get in indeed.

Agree it is exhausting to talk about officiating after every game and wins for that matter. Was always there but we are a team good enough at the moment to still win when the whistle is doing it’s best to stop us.

Especially with our ability to throw away games late against them. Very dangerous especially Arzani he gave us real trouble and on another night or different ref gets at least 1 pen.

I think Fagharni got all the pens right and had he given any VAR would not have had anything to go the other way with, even the dive by Arzani against Silvers because there was contact just minimal.

While we are whining and rightly so we actually were the biggest winners because one of our goals came from him playing on.

Monty screaming at Ruhs for yet another dumb decision was fantastic.
Rowdy summed it up best " he's a rugby league centre. Dumb and can run fast in straight lines"
I think an old school toe poke would be his best friend in one on ones. The one he put near the traveling fans wouldn’t have counted as there was like 3 rugby tackles in the lead up but missing that bad shows he needs work but i think he can be good

That effort last night would have also dragged the VAR into the drama too as they would be either seen as intervening too heavily to bring it back to any number of missed fouls in build up or being seen as useless and biased after ignoring them. No win situation.

Faghani is absolutely a ref you need to play around. Go into the game expecting a pretty high level of physicality and not getting the whistle but also be mindful of not crossing the line or giving him an easy yellow like a shirt pull or back chat.

Not much point in having a ref out there if they are not going to call fouls. That was the worst refereeing performance since that Adelaide game. Did Silvera really get booked for limping off or did he book the guy who dragged an injured player to his feet? Just diabolically bad.
I always had confidence in Faghani...

No longer after that trainwreck that could so easily have changed the result. He gave them every chance.

Could it be our wleague coach
I have been told that it will be Dan Barrett who is currently the head of female performance.
Been a while since I spoke to Dan but when I do get the time to do so next, I will see if I can get a confirmation on the sly :)

EDIT:
No need to sly the answer, it's actually already revealed on his personal linkedin page

I like how he has cleverly sledge Faghani by referring to player’s safety which is a very valid point. Laughed after the game when he said he would have loved to played in that game where anything goes.

Just finished watching the Glory v SFC match and P- put a graphic up showing Macarthur as winners 2-1 on Friday….. Honestly and that twat of a commentator Robbie whatshisfknname parrots it, what a complete an utter bunch of amateurs.

Looks like they employed all the dipshits that were at Fox Sports previously
