R2 - Central Coast Mariners vs Macarthur FC at home

We do that at walking pace most of the time and then give it away.

What’s the next 5 passes? Then the 5 after that?

Tactics is more than a nice triangle in ineffectual areas.

But we don’t play fast aggressive forward passes and we struggle to hit feet.

For me:

* Doka is not yet ready to play a proper wing back. Can’t physically and mentally get in positions incase we loose ball.

- Roux in, Doka out

* Theo was beating his man but kept holding ball rather than hard early crosses, all we need is one or two deflections or poor crosses.

- Keep Theo staring but have a plan, even if predictable hard low crosses. Get those corners and deflections.

* Smith doesn’t have that spark he had last time, even the year or two has lost the fitness edge he had last time bursting through.

- Smith out, Farrell in obviously.

* Kuol to the bench and try him as super sub.
* Wilson stay as bench player, although still average was much more effective against tired legs.
* Di Pizio! Was decent, creative and more reliable.

* Di pizio to staring lineup, Torres to partner Tulio up front or super sub.

Biggest thing missing so far imo is our fullbacks not getting forward as much, last year we had storm, faz and McGarry bombing up and down causing chaos and creating more space for everyone else whilst also not looking anywhere near as defensively vulnerable as we’ve been so far.

Theo is looking good but way too many touches at times, really slows down the momentum.

Not all doom and gloom however, we’ve had slowish starts in the last couple seasons aswell.

Player error is playing slowly a few times. Tactical errors from the coach come from not driving that urgency. It’s on the players if it’s sporadic. It’s on the coach when it’s the majority of the game.

The other side of that is - if the players are not capable of carrying out the tactics then maybe the coach needs to adjust them and not set them up to fail.

Woeful second half. All those feelings of dread coming back. We've got a big depth issue and without Faz we're in big trouble on the left. I like Smith but he was done after 60 mins and should have been subbed.

Wilson was honking again but it's obvious he's not a left side player, feel a bit sorry for him. Crowd are turning on him, needs a rest.

This coach is looking like a pretender. We can't even beat an injury affected, travel tired MacArthur, at home. Tactics pretty much non-existant and nothing really seemed to be adjusted during the game.

Going to be a long season if we play like that.

Tulio must be regretting staying.

Niz was awesome as usual.

Thank the gods Kaltak was back.

TBH I watched Paull very carefully today. Jacko was constantly on his case and he seemed to just ignore him. His body shape when defending seems a bit of for a CB and his long balls are either hit out or behind the player.

I'd love to know what Monty's plan was for him - and for Faz. If Monty was here I would expect to see given the games so far a back four of

Roux----Kaltak---Faz---Smith or possibly an experiment with Paull.

Wilson was shit.
Paull needs time on the pine.
Smith needs to get his confidence back.
Theo and Torres had go forward but no plan.
Kuol wasn't getting any feed.
DWH and Tulio need to stop standing back to goal.
Steel was non existent.

To much jockeying in defence, no impetus in attack.

Thank Christ for Kaltak, Nizzy and Vuk.

P.s Ref was attrocious, wasn't the reason we lost, but indecisive, and made some poor calls

Kurto made some top saves in the first half which kept them in the game. However there were warning signs with turnovers in the midfield giving them some chances.

Second half was a shitshow.More poor passing and turnovers and eventually they scored following one of those turnovers.Second goal was poor defending on our left side and Danny appeared to be unsighted.

Alou was clumsy and well marshalled by their big CBs.Theo fiddles around too much and Torres was ineffective.Nizzy worked hard and it looked like he was barged over but no penalty call.Even he in the second half made some poor passes.Steele and later Tapp also turned the ball over numerous times.

I left just before Kaltak's goal but knew 20 minutes from time that we were not up to the task against a very average side.

Well I didn``t enjoy that at all.
It was like we played in slow motion with very little cohesion at all.
To many times we defended for them by playing back when options forward were available.
To add to that Macarthur was nowhere near a decent side.

I don`t want to put the mock on anyone, but I think we need to see:

Vuka
Storm - Hall/Windust Kaltak Faz
Doka Niz Balard Theo
Alou Tulio

Bench - Paull, Torres, Steel, Hall/Windust, Warchawsky

I`m impressed with Di Pizio and Tapp and hopefully they get minutes in the AFC games.
The back 4 is basically as per last season so they should be able to tighten up our defence.
Doka likes to play forward but when Storm overlaps Doka can also defend.
Left side Theo needs a rocket up him, he slows the attack waiting for the defender to get into
position so that he can take him on. He needs to play more one touch and move the ball quicker.

Paull needs to get used to the pace of A League football before he plays full games, a few games off the bench defending against tired players may help with that.
Torres I think, would serves us better playing on the left side running at a tired defence, his "cut inside" and shoot over the posts is becoming monotonous and as such Alou and Tulio are not getting any decent service.
Hall/Windust are like for like as is Steele/Balard
