We were the better side. Paull was ok, to me Smith was the weak link in the Back 4. Kaltak was probably our MOM overall.

Steele showed that Balard is a much better option. Niz was excellent as usual

We are really missing Cummings.

Their goal keeper was excellent.

The ref was a dead set FA stooge. Two stone cold penalties.

Kaltak 3pts
Niz 2pts
1pt...no one.

I didn't like hearing the "Wilson's a wanker" chant.

We were the better of two seriously crap sides.

Put us up against anybody else and we would of gotten smashed.

Referee is lucky he's in the A-League and not a South American league. Worthless gimp.

Always said it'd take until round 6-8 for this squad to gel, but even today with obvious deficiencies in passing short and getting the ball upfield, should have finished with a one man advantage and at least one more goal in our favour.

After having a look at our first 2 games I believe we are playing still very similar to last year as far as style and tactics.

Monty did a lot more long balls then you would think and like these last two games we start strong like Monty’s team and if you convert those chances you are 1-0, 2-0 up.

The problem is we are missing those opportunities and some good goal keeping + it’s obvious from the various games I’ve seen that the official are trying to make more infield decisions and avoiding VAR if possible.
Once again not in our favour today.

So to stay positive in both these first two games we have started well early but missed chances, then slump but still seem to be the better side as such, thanks to Nizzy, etc.

Bit of tinkering and maybe after a few rounds Var gets more influence we win a few and get on a roll.

Plus Roux getting fitter, Faz back and niggles stretching out.

Perceptive post Jim, as usual.

Nizz playing higher in the park is good, but we must have Ballard with him to cover the distribution he normally provides. We are also missing Nizz's defence when he is playing high.

Both our wingers need to learn there are other players on the team. Theo stops momentum when he stops. He can beat a player, but usually ends up going nowhere. He can shoot so needs to pass and move to into a scoring position. Torres can be dangerous but needs to find someone else who can score when he has broken the defence. Maybe a change of sides.
Tulio and Nizz are providing chances but no one is taking advantage.
We are missing Cummings getting between the lines and holding the ball.
I suspect DWH would be better on a wing.
Wilson obviously has some talent, maybe he is tearing the training ground up. Needs to settle in games and "walk before he can run" and settle in.
Simply the new players have to learn to be part of the team.

We have lost a very significant number of our players who were the best in the team. This year should be viewed as a total rebuild. it will take time, maybe more than one season. The new coach has his work cut out. We will see how good he is.

Well
That was incredibly infuriating. Most of our players need to seriously pull their fingers out. The tactics were fine. They’re not even fully set in yet.

Kuol was absolute dog shit 2 MASSIVE chances he straight up butchered with questionable technique, DWH not a whole lot better but atleast did a couple positive things.
Do we honestly need more proof that Wilson ain’t it?
What tactics? They were a clueless rabble
Chris we have players walking around the field, laughing at missed goals, seemingly non plussed when the opposition is striding with the ball to their final third. “Oh.. ok.. I will trot after him.”
I don’t care how happy they are with the coach. Are we back to being happy living by the sea and the palm trees and who cares about the rest?
Not good enough.
Happy that he wants to be their mate I believe.

Disagree that playing Nizz so high is good. He was overrunning channels that Kuol and especially Tulio should have been in. Tulio was virtually non existent today which was a huge worry.

Last season, JC and/or Tulio would drop back in the lines. This would create space for the the 7 and 11 to make the most of space behind.

Additionally the the 7, 9, 10 and 11 would rotate to create confusion and chaos.

This hasn’t happened in the new regime and the stark difference on why we are one goal for at the moment, that being a defender’s goal.

MJ needs to sort out his transitions, movements and combinations.

On the face of it we don't look too bad. The backline is missing Faz. Kaltek brain explosion for the first goal. Koul misses two decent chances from 6 yards or less. But players are getting frustrated with each other. Tulio blowing up at Theo for refusing to cross any ball early. Torres blowing up on the other side. Something is not right.
Yes, what I saw was Theo waited to be surrounded by the opposition and then tried to beat them all. I don't think he managed a quick pass to a team member in the front third. That is why he is more a bench player. Not tho only guilty party, we need to rely on good passing and movement and then individual brilliance as an option not the normal.

There is no one, even Tulio who has the ball holding ability to play between the line like Cummings did. I suspect that is why the coach has Nizz playing higher, he seems to be making the most options in attack at the moment.
Maybe as you say that is disrupting Kuol, he was definitely lost today.
I need to watch the replay.
The team is playing as individuals at the moment and not combining much at all.

One of the goals was directly due to Kaltak coming out for a header and missing. His hands aren’t clean.
To me he was beaten by the way the ball came off the pitch, shouldn't they be covering each other if one goes forward?otherwise I thoght Kaltak was brilliant, but what do I know!

Ref has done a number on us today. Where was the VAR reviews for Nizzy getting barged and the handball? Where was Aspro’s clear red? Absolute bullshit regardless of any mistakes our boys made.
Niz wasn’t barged. Was a good no call. Wasn’t quite a dive but he basically lost his balance. Was no push in the back. Ref was right

Handball hit his shoulder and arm was down next to his body if it was arm. Also correct no penalty.

Aspro feel on the ball and handled it. Wasn’t like a dilberate grab. Was fair way out and red would’ve been over the top. Also right call.

Defense is still having issues when caught on the counter. Can be cleaned up but needs to stop happening because Asian teams and A League are catching us out.

Ball movement through the middle of the pitch is really good.

Attack needs viagra.

To many individuals in attack. Theo is amazing with the ball at his feet but by the time he does anything with it the boys have already made their runs or given up because they don’t know what he is doing. Needs to make the simple pass a few more times.

Torres needs to realise A League keeper’s will save most shots straight at them. Was unlucky on the outstretched save by Kurto but Kurto is a very good keeper as well.

Tulio is frustrated with the others. Needs to develop the combinations.

Even though we have 9 and 6 against the Asian teams we have butched triple that and you can’t do that at the A League level.
Need to simplify the attack.

Di Pizzo loks bright and his shot was strong.

Playing decent but need to work on the teamwork in front of goals.

Best part of game was Nizz giving back after the penalty shout and all the boys coming in for the handbags. Love it

They are supposed to cover each other but there’s no doubt it made a relatively comfortable situation a lot more dangerous.

Disagree on that. The other defender had a bunch of ground to cover both backwards and across and we’ve seen reds with covering players far closer than that. I’ll reserve judgement on the rest but from a positioning perspective DOGSO would be warranted. In the game after ours only an offside stopped Natta getting a red after a clash the same distance out and there were players much closer than anyone was in our game.

Agree. The ref had nothing to do with it.

It’s ref call. Could have gone red if he wanted to but think that would have been very harsh and if happened to us we’d be fuming.

I watched on tv not at ground so saw all the replays

Wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity.
More central and 5 or 10 m closer and he's off
