Congrats on the promotion to Elite 1. Well earned by the boys.

Need a good senior team now. Trials next week.
That's a tough gig in the men.

Well done!

Great to see the Coast up there in the top leagues! Good luck to all players and staff for the 2013 season.

How'd trials go Kev?
The promotion should have brought some travelers back home I suspect.

Would the CCM youth league boys make up a portion of the men's squad for Elite 1 in winter?
Makes sense.

Some players have come back, many haven't and a few have left. Major issue seems to be the coaching standard, which compared to other PYL clubs is poor. There are still around 20 players at PL1 clubs - Spartans, Blacktown City, Manly, Olympic, Bonnyrigg, APIA and even South Coast Wolves (yes travelling to Wollongong) from the Central Coast and more still who have gone to PL2 or NNSW through choice (as opposed to being cut and not making the CCMA squads) as well as those who have missed out and gone to Sydney clubs rather than back to local football.

There have been drop outs from the squads already and some teams still haven't been finalised.

The trials have been a shambles, the coaching standard is still unacceptable and the administration of the whole program is poor. Other teams have been training 3 times a week and have already had trial games, they've been fitted for the gear, signed off on all the registration and paperwork, have their Managers organised and in place.

What have we got? Players dropping out, players that have been cut and gone to other clubs being rung up and asked to come back, one team without a goalkeeper, another not sure whether or not they want one of last year's keepers who was cut to come back as a back up for two age groups, one coach wavering on his commitment because his son didn't make it in his age group, and still advertising for SAP coaches after one of the ones that had been offered a position went to another club where the coaches payments are double what we are offering them. No wonder coaches like Andre Gumprecht, Brad Porter, Dale Eggleton, Bill Vrolyks, Daniel Barrett and Tony Gerasimou are coaching local club teams - CCF/CCMA just aren't prepared to pay coaches what they can get off the clubs or elsewhere. But they can find the money to pay over $500 per week to players in the first grade squad. Where has this come from and why can't it go to investing in some decent youth squad coaches.

Starfish you have touched on a few points that with a little understanding are easily answered!
  • "Major issue seems to be the coaching standard, which compared to other PYL clubs is poor"
In who's opinion? Many of the coaches have not coached at the PYL level before, so obviously other PYL clubs have coaches that have done so at a higher level. What SHOULD be emphasised is that the postions were NOT ADVERTISED externally for all ages. This did not give other coaches an opportunity to express interest in current positions and yes while results in 2012 were good it is not good practice to not see what is available in the open market. It also does not reflect well on CCMA nor the CCF when jobs are simply "handed out".
  • "There are still around 20 players at PL1 clubs - Spartans, Blacktown City, Manly, Olympic, Bonnyrigg, APIA and even South Coast Wolves (yes travelling to Wollongong) from the Central Coast and more still who have gone to PL2 or NNSW through choice (as opposed to being cut and not making the CCMA squads) as well as those who have missed out and gone to Sydney clubs rather than back to local football."
This has, is and always will be the case, no matter who is coaching! Players and parents follow coaches and or styles of coaches, nothing unique to our region!
  • "The trials have been a shambles, the coaching standard is still unacceptable and the administration of the whole program is poor. Other teams have been training 3 times a week and have already had trial games, they've been fitted for the gear, signed off on all the registration and paperwork, have their Managers organised and in place."
I cannot disagree with some of your comments here. Other teams however had the majority of their "Premier League" squads from last year! CCMA was behind the eight ball not knowing until the day what League they would be in and therefore not knowing what "quality" of player they would attract. The coaching "standard" has been set by The Mariners and like I said earlier not asking for expressions of interest was a mistake I would hope is not made again.
  • "What have we got? What have we got? We have our Boys and Girls in Elite 1, We have a Senior Team back and in Elite 1 and we have the women in Premier League, we also have been accepted into the SAP program for 9,10 and 11's. Pretty good I think!
Does it need a lot of work YES, Does it require money to be spent YES, Do we need to pay the coaches more YES, Do we need to be competitive in Senior Men to avoid relegation YES, do we need the support of the CCF,CCM, Clubs, Parents, Players and Coaches YES!!

Wow!
It sounds like some things haven't changed but overall the coast is heading in the right direction by getting the boys/men back into Premier league. This coming season presents a huge amount of opportunity for CCMA and shouldn't be taken for granted.
It would be nice to think that politics and money can be put aside for this season and focus on getting through the first and most challenging year in the top level of rep football. A successful year will result in more depth of players and possibly higher qualified coaches making themselves available in year two. And hopefully welcomed back.
There's a lot of people watching the progress of the CCMA's total package, U9 SAP to A-League pathway. It's an opportunity many metro clubs will never have. Don't f#%k it up.

We travel to Sydney for different reasons than those mentioned above but sincerely would like to see CCMA do well and continue raising the standard both on and off the field.

Re training: once a week now, twice a week Dec, break two weeks, three days in Jan. Players are expected to do core, fitness and touch exercises in their own time not at training.

Some good points there Einstein and nothing really to disagree with, except the bit about some of the time constraints. Nobody knew until the October 15 announcement what competition they would be playing in. Most, especially those that ended up in PL1 had a reasonable idea that is where they would be. Parramatta would've realistically expected to be dropped (as they were) and the only other clubs in any sort of danger were Rockdale and South Coast Wolves. The only realistic contenders to replace those 3 teams were Central Coast, Northern Tigers and Sydney Uni. My point is that they should have been preparing to be in PL1 from the time they put in there submission. Scouting and recruiting the best players and coaches and having them committed, conditional upon entry into PL1. Blacktown City, Spartans, Manly, Olympic and Sutherland all had their trial dates organised dependent on the announcement, as well as having most of their players and coaches in place.
As you rightly pointed out most of the coaching appointments at CCMA were handed out on the basis of last year's performance, which despite winning the club championship, was overall down on the previous year when comparing the results of individual teams (except the 16s).
You are right - the whle program needs the support of everyne involved, but the closed shop mentality and amateurish approach has got to go. As Mumbles has said - we can't afford to f@#k it up this time.

1st grade lost 3-1
"Sutherland Sharks enjoyed a good start to the pre-season tournament with a 3-1 victory over the Central Coast Mariners Academy with a brace from Panny Nikas and a goal from Nik Tstattalios" ... not scorer mentioned by FNSW for the Mariners

Sutho is a strong club. 2nd in the club championship last year.
The boys did well. A good taste of premier league football.

Sorry Elite 1 until they change the name back to premier league. ;)
