If they don't get the competition completed I would think they would take the table as it was at the end of Round 11 after everyone had played each other once as this gives the fairest picture overall. Unfortunately we were 6th at the time and would miss promotion. If they took it as at Round 16 there would be grounds to be considered unfair - especially as we played 3 of the 4 bottom teams in the first 4 rounds of the comp.
In any comp it would be a big call to walk back 5 games to make a decision on standings. I get the logic but it would be harsh to ask teams to forget recent results, at that point you should be considering nullifying the whole thing and trying again next season.

Can't say I have much hope for the grassroots season. Might get another 3-4 rounds in tops to minimise the refund CCF would have to offer.

Obviously a bit quiet on the NPL team news front, but GK for the U/20s NPL team last season Reef Murfet has returned to Tasmania for the 2022 season, signing with NPL Tasmania champions Glenorchy Knights. Their keeper for the past 2 season has joined Oakleigh Cannons in NPLVIC, so will be the no.1 keeper at Glenorchy.

Definitely surprised to see Reef go.

Was he any good?
Definitely potential there. He was younger than the other keepers too. Had a couple of injuries throughout the season which hindered his progress. Fractured his thumb the day he trialled and then again just after coming back from the rehab. Hopefully after some NPL experience he'll do well enough to trial again.

Enjoyable night at Cromer watching the Academy play Manly.

19s won 6-1 and totally dominated. Apparently they have been unstoppable in preseason. Tang Kuol scored a back heel volley to open the scoring.

First grade got on top of Manly through goals by Tsekenis and Jok and Manly came back through two goals by Panduravic. Manly dominated second half as well but the Mariners grabbed the lead through a Bayliss penalty. This brought the Mariners back in the game and a Tapp header from a corner made it 4-2.

True to Mariners form they conceded in injury time handed Panduravic a hat trick but held on for a 4-3 win.

This is a highly rated side so the win abodes well for the season. Also impressed with the physicality of the side. For younger kids they matched Manly for intensity and physicality.

That's a top 4 NPL side (on the 2021 table) - very good signs for them

Definitely very good signs for the Mariners but if Manly don’t fix their defensive frailties they won’t be a top four side. The two centre backs are woeful (especially the LCB) and their preseason form has been terrible.

March Fixtures:
St George City (H), Bonnyrigg White Eagles (A), Mounties Wanderers (H)

There’s been changes aplenty at Central Coast Mariners with many of last year’s squad progressing into the A-league side.

Stepping in to replace Nick Montgomery as head coach is Andrew Christensen. Christiansen has a long history with Manly United, starting his coaching journey almost a decade ago. More recently however, he has been in the role of technical director at the Northern beaches club.

If there was a competition for the longest pre-season, the Mariners would be clear winners with the majority of the NPL squad training since last August to support the A-league side.

The squad is a mix of returning players and new faces alike, with the academy attracting plenty of interest from interstate players, a testimony to its success.

Brad Tapp, Cameron Windust, Dean Larson, Maksim Kasalovic, Michael Katsoulis and Sasha Kuzeski return from last season. And Josh Hong and Lachlan Bayliss step up from their 20’s side. While a total of nine players have joined the squad.

Sprinkle in some A-league scholarship players and the Pluim Park based side look in for another strong outing.

It’s hard not to be impressed by the progression of the Mariners academy. With an A league coach willing to give youth their chance, the competition for spots in this side can only be a good thing for the Mariners promotion hopes.

Squad: Bradley Tapp, Cameron Windust, Dean Larson, Dor Jok, Harry Talbot, Jackson Khoury, Jakob Cresnar, Jordan Segreto, Joshua Hong, Lachlan Bayliss, Lawrence Caruso, Maksim Kasalovic, Michael Katsoulis, Patrick Beach, Ricardo Rizzo, Sasha Kuzevski, Zac Zoricich.

Jakob Cresnar is the son of an ex-team mate of mine in Newcastle, Jimmy Cresnar. Interestingly Jimmy is the technical director at Broadmeadow Magic and Jakob comes from Newcastle. Will be interested to see how he goes at left back.

Two players I am putting on the radar are Dor Jok and Sasha Kuzevski. Also Ben Duncan who isn’t on that list.

Seemingly a few missing from that list including Garang Kuol, Harry McCarthy, Damien Tsekenis, Matt Hatch - all appear in the squad list I have, and all who strengthen that squad massively. Ben Duncan appears to be registered with the 20s
