Not having a go at JMac but I haven't seen a cross like that from him before. That said it left a lot for Leckie to do. A couple of degrees back and it would have been a tap in. I doubt anyone could have done more than Leckie did.

Tbh the replacements when they came on seemed to show less energy than the starter
S
Hrustic struggled to make much of an impact and I thought Baccus was a lot more busier. To be fair Arnie didn’t give them much time to settle in either they were thrown in for a hectic part of the game. Mooy impressed with his effort for the whole 90 and was very solid defensively when it was required. My heart dropped when Kye made that error but a fantastic covering tackle by Souttar. Can they lift themselves for the next game, most teams who have had a cracking game are flat for their next one. That would have been a draining game for the players and I feel Arnie hasn’t given enough time for others in the squad after two games. He will keep the same team who will be lethargic due the Denmark game.

I’m stoked for the team and staff however I feel this is all they wanted to achieve, do we have any plans for Denmark as there is a real opportunity to advance. I was pretty critical of Arnie in the second half as we desperately needed fresh legs, Leckie and Goodwin were both gased. When you think we had Tiilio, Mabil and Garang on the bench I couldn’t understand why he didn’t show some faith in the young players and a fresher player could have got on the end of Maclaren’s cross. This is a tournament not just one game and I want them as a team to advance as it’s a huge achievement. Leaving the likes of Leckie on the pitch for so long limits what you will get out of him in game three.

Glad it wasn’t just me then. Was all but yelling this at the TV and people around me thought I was a bit crazy. They were playing through Leckie repeatedly because he was clearly gassed. Ten minute later he goes down with cramp and still isn’t subbed - was driving me mental. Understand holding off on Tilio and Garang due to defensive requirements - but Mabil, Baccus or Devlin… I thought we "got away with" as opposed to perfect sub timings - which was the commentary.

Karacic also had several poor moments and was surprised we didn’t see Deng. Then even more surprised, though not unhappy when he brought on Degenek there.

The only reason Leckie didn’t make it is because he had to change the angle of his run, he angled in towards J Mac too much and when he had to correct it and lost ground. The cross was very good and should have been capitalised on. Mabil’s touch at the end was terrible and he had a great chance. I didn’t think Mabil’s defence was that great to be honest.

Agree, Mabil looked lost. Didn't seem to know who he was covering or what he was supposed to do. Behich rightly gave him an earful at one stage.

This win was critical so I see why Arnie held off subbing in inexperienced players. It was a risk in it's own way though

I thought that was the best game I have ever seen Leckie play. He and Goodwin were both immense.
Bringing on McTapin was wrong. Cumdog plays the Duke role brilliantly whereas Tappy has zero work rate.
Mooy doing his best impression of Bresch was a credit to him
Dukey was CCM level good.
Also, Souttar. Name a better 99 mins from a CB in Green and Gold?

I to was yelling for that sub but i maybe wrong here but even though we can have 5 subs is it still in 3 separate intervals only?

If so we had already used 2 so only had one left and with the unknown extra minutes it still could have been another 20+ minutes so Arnie needed to hold on as long as he could incase we needed a defensive sub or a time wasting one. That’s the only thing I could think of

He missed his opportunity with the Degenek sub, that was when he should have taken off Leckie or Goodwin. Both were gassed. He could have done a double sub and still kept one up his sleeve. After that point he had 15+ minutes of the game and only 1 sub period left for 2 players, he had boxed himself into a corner and had to wait.

Yeah I was baying for Leckie to be replaced because he done his job and was on last legs but after we replaced both wingers we just opened up down the sides. Baccus on the right not as much as Mabil but then Mabil got himself into a position to finish the game off but for a poor touch. I thought Arnold did very very well with the subs in hindsight.

Exactly this.

To be clear, thought Leckie had a great game, but any player becomes a defensive liability when gassed.

Not sure how Souttar couldn’t been man of the match tbh. Pretty much single handedly saved us several times, most notably after Kye’s unfortunate mistake and then legit like 90 seconds later again with an epic block.

How can you overturn an offside call to pay a goal? Surely once the flag goes up it can’t count because then the defenders would/could stop. Like in cricket when Adam Voges was bowled off what was called a no ball on field that shouldn't have been, but it can’t be reversed because when the umpire sticks his arm out that could impact what happened.
