CCM vs Pissants United

Watching the game a lot of time was spent organizing closing down the passing lanes to Goodwin.. both Nizzy & Steele did a lot off the ball in this regard...

. Faz and Aquilana also made a number of well-timed intercepts during the game ... and we have been kinda missing this

. not only does it put pressure on the opposition's passing accuracy - it also has us set to break forward ... quickly

. we are now seeing more of these things happen in concert ... where the pressure comes from the mids, forcing erratic passing, increasing intercepts - with CBs positioned to react if needed. this is not happening by accident (but the coordination has been a little lacking in some matches)

. a couple of other interesting observations from last night:
  • Goodwin being warmly applauded when he left the pitch ... no doubt some recognition of his WC campaign - with the crowd acknowledged in return. this is the type of fan behaviour that the APL should be drawing attention to
  • Goodwin also signing autographs on the pitch after the match. i am not sure who instigated this but it seemed a popular enough decision ... and credit to him after his side had had their arses handed to them

The Adelaide RB Madanha while often beaten by Beni and Silvera when defending did show some attacking skills and looks like he should be playing as a winger.
As @JoyfulPenguin said he is a winger playing out of position

Last game was his first start (game before he got a couple of minutes late in debut) due to injury to their RB. Veart was basically coaching him from the touch line in the 1st half of that game while he was on the coaching side. Very raw but also no experience in A League as a RB. Had a very good season last year for the AU NPL side scored a few goals as well (7). Certainly had us under the most pressure early. Looks a good prospect and will be interesting to see what he can do as a RW when he gets a chance.

Just on the penalty non-call for the push on Faz, I'm pretty sure it was actually a delayed off-side call on Tulio after Cummings' shot rather than a goal kick.

So the delay with VAR would have been checking the off side rather than the pen. Presumably given the time spent on it, they thought it was a pen if not off side.

I have a lot of respect for Goodwin, well deserved.
Took his Socceroos exploits to get me over the line though

I thought his first game was a really solid debut. Second not so much but that was due to the overall performance and us being on them from kickoff. I think there's real potential for him on either the wing or RB. Some Adelaide fans throwing him under the bus but that's not fair and far more experienced and better paid players disappeared on the weekend.

Couple days late but here’s my 2cents from that EXCELLENT win on Saturday.

I said to my mates before kick off that I think Silvera could be the guy to explode now garangs gone…. Didn’t he just do that. His most influential match in his young career thus far. The kid is working so f**king hard off the ball, elite touches and he’s refined his shooting technique to constantly hit the target. Newly single young man focusing on his career. Showing hunger. love it.

Faz returned to form nicely even taking on players in tight areas, just wish he could cross consistently.
I no longer have doubts about Kaltaks on the ball ability or marking. He was superb yet again.
niz went to another level IMO. And I want to mention Triantis, the kid also went up a gear on satdy. His passing and overall technique on the ball was out of this world in that match. Some of the diagonals, firm central passing and that long range rocket is a dream to watch for a purist like me.

I agree he seems to have some ability, we targeted his side and Silvera and Faz had a field day and he was lost in defence plenty of times so at this stage agree he is showing more as a winger at the moment.

He will learn a lot from that game, whilst I'm not fond of Veart he does give young players a go and would be second to Monty in improving them as players. Adelaide are suffering this season in defence however they have some good prospects like young Popovic who is very good just missing an older calming head next to him. Their back line is very young when you add Madanha in the mix and we definitely took advantage of it.

I said the same about SS when last year we were all querying who would/could step up. He has work to do and it seems he's dropped a yard of pace. BUT his work rate has kicked up, he wants to get the ball, he's scoring and hitting targets and the thing he needs to work on, his D has improved.

And not let's forget we never really hassled Garang for his ordinary defensive work.
