Mariners v Welly (Pride Round)

Kaltek was both dumb and unlucky. He went in, got the ball, but was too high. The ball caught his foot and rolled him over it and into the player. The point that he had his studs up and was in a position for this to go wrong earns him the card.

Moresche - tough one. Finger in the eye is a fair red, but ref discretion could have yellowed.

Main point here is if these are reds, WP had at least 3 reds coming too. Inconsistent (aka poor) refereeing or corruption are the only 2 options.

Outside of our imperfect finishing we were otherwise great. Damn shame. These things impact seasons.

Moresche has just returned from a long term injury and when the player went through him and threatened a return to that injury Moresche got emotional. Still needed to keep the lid on but he was overwhelmed. I hope the club gets to put some perspective of this into place when his penalty is considered

Bloke was getting pulled off the ball all-night without repercussion, I'd probably crack the shits too if a prick was tugging on us all night with no officiating response.

Yep I feel this one will impact our final position this season with the best case scenario scrapping into the 6. If a red was given for every high stud hitting a players leg there would be 6 or 7 a week. If Morgan had given it a yellow would have been interesting to see if the VAR would have reviewed it as there was very minimal contact, Morgan was also sucked in by Ball’s reaction like his leg was broken. Inexperienced official who got sucked in and then lost control for the last half an hour. Moresche is a red no matter what we say, hopefully only a minimum suspension is the best we can ask on that one.

Just another game we are debating the officials.

One point gained but two points lost. Some very questionable refereeing and stupidity by certain players-yes Moresche that was incredibly stupid.

Kaltak's tackle and subsequent red card was a turning point. We were well on top and had more goals in us( even with Ollie Sail in such great form). He did win the ball in the tackle but his foot then slid up the ball, hit the player and down went the kiwi. The ref nearly burst a boiler running over brandishing the card-Kaltak is a marked man.His physicality is being held against him by officials .

Moreche's card was inevitable once he laid hands on the opponent-the lightest of slaps-if you are going to do that give the bastard a real whack.

Monty's card-abuse from coaching staff-meh-piss weak and insecure refereeing. When the Muskrat was the Victory coach the abuse and invective directed towards match officials was non stop but nothing was ever done about it.

Some positives-Roux,Farrell and McGarry. It was hard to separate Roux and Farrell for my MOTM but Stormy slides in because of the excellent cross for McGarry's goal and the goal line block and clearance.Farrell was a revelation at LCB-at times when playing LB he was caught out positionally but being more central suited him fine. The sliding tackle on Zawada in the second half was sensational.

McGarry is a very good pick up.Probably a better defender then Faz as he rarely gets caught out of position and showing postivity in attack. He took his goal very well-timed his move to perfection and hit it across the keeper.

Vukovic was in good form and looked safe .Beni again worked hard but of course no-one including Beni knows what is going to happen when he has the ball at his feet but his pace and some excellent flick ons with his head put Tulio and Cummings in excellent attacking positions.Silvera again did his share of work and worried their defenders.I did not think that it was a penalty when he went down in the box.

When down to ten men and then nine Windust,Harry Steele and Theoharous stepped up.A pity that Zawada finally got a chance and got the equaliser.Until then all our CBs had him well marshalled.

I am the same as you, although actually I think I am already there. I just don’t see a point anymore. Regardless of what you think about the refs calls, these ones go against us and never for us. I can accept calls for Kaltak’s red, for which I disagree, but Kraev needs to be gone too. This just happens far too consistently; there is so much more to this than just one game. This is season after season and yes, I know quite a few people around the league including club managers, and they say the same thing that they get more favourable calls when they play us. I am not even angry about it. It is what is. All the time and money I will save feels like a relief. Until something changes with these refs, I think I am gone.
As I said earlier, the corruption is so transparent it's laughable.

Like we knew last years' FFA Cup Final going to Melbourne was a foregone conclusion before the staged game of chance they conducted, you just know that they'll find a way to have at least one of SFC/ WSW in the final this season if the team is struggling to achieve it on their own merit. I just hope that if/ when another side gets screwed to make way for SFC/ WSW, it's somebody like City or Adelaide for a change. Then more people might actually sit up and pay attention...

It was pretty clear to me that the Wellington player was waiting for Moresche to do that and ready to make a meal of it. Having said that it was still a stupid thing to do and a deserved red. Kaltaks challenge should have gone to VAR. I've not yet seen a replay so not sure if that happened but it did not feel like it at the game. When we went in at halftime at 1-0 i had a feeling that we needed to make more of our chances. We were clearly the better side in the first and were made to pay for our less than clinical finishing. Interested to see what DWH can do coming off the bench next week.

* I’ve watched Kaltaks a fair few times and actually can’t identify studs to shin contact in the footage. He almost curls his foot upon contact if there is any.
(Should we appeal for simulation)?

* I’ve watched Moreshe a fair few times and shouldn’t touch a face however falls over from being touched on the nose. = simulation/port form
(Should we appeal for a review to get them a red card for diving)

* Kraev yellow card studs to ball not in any highlights reels I can find.
However diving in with studs up is still risk of serious foul play, just because you didn’t get a player doesn’t mean it’s wildly dangerous??
(Should we appeal for review of that challenge to try and gain leneancy on Kaltac)

* Moreshe & Tulio should have scored there 1on1’s.

We had seven shots on target so there is more than just Tùlio and Moresche. Storm had a great chance created by the Dingo and The Garry late in the game however Sail made a great save. Silvera also had a good crack in the first half. We made Sail look good other than The Garry save which was top shelf. Played all over them so the decisions are harder to take and I doubt we will be in second after this weeks games. Made our run for the finals so much harder.

Maybe we do need to scream and shout more.

Photo of article about Farrell performance making a good tackle but with studs half way up his leg!

If they ain’t going to pull up the drama queens I hate to say but we may have to fall, scream and shout.
nah, they'll start doing us for simulation then

Unfortunately you are spot on Recky, we are still the only team I’ve seen this season done for hand ball when a player was pushed in the back and fell onto the ball. There are different interpretations for us.

Sail did make some outstanding saves though he was the reason nix got a point
That was through good technique which is essentially good goalkeeping. The Tulio shot he stood tall and big and it hit him in the face. Most keepers fall away there and the ball goes in.

I still don’t know how he saved the McGarry shot. That was outrageous!

Easily the man-of-the-match.

yeah that last save was crazy. Watched it a few times on repeat - just instinctively throwing his hand into the right trajectory - such a tiny fraction of a second in it. Then the fact his hand was strong enough to knock it that far off its trajectory… just mental.
