ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

ALM Round 1 vs Adelaide

Very interesting night tonight. This is Monty's team designed to play Monty's way. How will Jacko settle the team into his style. Will it be effective against Aleague opp. Especially the team we f**ked over so well and so often last season.
He’s been pretty open that his and Monty’s set ups/styles are very similar. Just small changes.
We’re still a very good footy team.
I’m expecting a win.

Not sure how this one will go, we can't afford for our strikers to be missing as many as we are.

There won't be as many chances in this game, if our finishing has sharpened up we should get the job done. Bookies have it pretty even with Adelaide slight favourites, ADL 2.37 CCM 2.62.

Back into the season at last, can't wait.

Correct, even though we scored 9 against the Stallions we were still pretty wasteful. Hopefully that game got their scoring mojo in check.

Happened twice in our ALW game last weekend so you've already seen it and it led to 2 red cards being a second yellow.
It's third player in for a ref confrontation because there are more often than not a couple of players around a decision when made and we are all heated during a game so you can't start booking everyone that reacts to a decision. But third player in is fair enough. You've more than likely had to travel a distance to argue with the ref.
You absolutely can and should. I dont care if you're standing beside the ref you cant get up in their face and argue it. It's not ok to have the pinnacle of pro football in Aus showing actions that are unacceptable in a community sport setting. Tone is set from the top.

What do these arguments with the ref ever achieve anyway, they don't change the decision. You might think that questioning the ref's decision will positively influence their decisions for the rest of the match and it may well but could also be for worse if they bear a grudge.

Giving the ref some chat is part of the game but to be a Pro you need to able to pick your moments and contain yourself when you need to. Everyone makes mistakes from time to time but if it's the same person behaving consistently over time you can see there's a defect in their personality and they need to get some self awareness. I think we had a sports psychologist helping the team last season didn't we? Or did I imagine that...

Cummings always seemed to be good at influencing the ref.

I think being disrespectful and reacting to a decision can be 2 different things. If you're showing disrespect I don't think it matters if your first there or last there you should get carded. However what this interpretation is saying that if you rush in as the third player to question a decision you'll be carded, disrespect or not.

I've captained most teams I've ever played in and for me it's critical to let the ref know you're aggrieved by a bad decision - especially one costing a goal in a tight game.

Of course, that doesn't mean you get in his/her face and start shouting - that's moronic and asking for trouble. But there are ways of doing it tastefully and human nature being what it is, if a ref (wanting to seem competent and impartial) suspects he's got an important decision wrong... it's likely to lead to an evening up decision. I've seen it many times.

Of course, amateur football is very different from pro. Not least given the ubiquitous cameras.

No VAR this season, maybe that's why they're clamping down on it.

Think thats been confirmed to be a false rumor that was doing the rounds. The APL came out and said they are investing more in it.
Interesting, they mentioned it on the ACL commentary that's where I picked it up from. Said they had a new provider who couldn't stand it up in time. Guess we'll find out for sure shortly. Wonder if the girls game had it?
