ALM Round 8 CFG Away

That was the main thing I took out of that goal, also was a bit dissapointed with Nisbet there as moments earlier he gave away possesion quite ea
I'm looking at Steele. Simply ball watched in extra time in the box is unforgivable. No attempt to block the passing lane and no attempt to pick up the unmarked goalscorer.

Tough lesson and those mistakes aside I thought he had a great game. I've always liked him for his effort and shit housery but didn't think he was showing the confidence or skill to be a midfield starter. But today I thought he was very Niz like, played beautifully.

Script was written for Niz or Alou to score the winner.

Marco awesome.

Thought Max was terrible first half, great effort to step up in the second.

That second half was like us last season, good signs of improvement.

Someone compared the smack in the head to Marco to the one Torres guy a red for, VERY good point. Plastics get let off yet again

I was happy to snag a draw before kick off… could’ve and probably should’ve been a win. First half was very sub standard to the direction the boys are heading but the tactical change of niz to the 10 and Tulio wide was literally perfect for the attack. I hope that becomes the norm. I’m probably Marco’s biggest fan on this forum from the minute he signed as I knew a far bit about him beforehand, but his flicks and tricks on occasion when they don’t work do hurt us if he loses it centrally. Niz keeps it very simple and effective in the 10, he hit a new level in that second half. Tulio out wide is also perfect, frees him up and gets him one on one. He doesn’t need to be a classic winger just a wide playmaker.

All 3 of their goals were 100% avoidable but I don’t wanna bash the defence, we’re still very much tracking in the right direction.

And welcome to the football club, Angel Torres. What a match from him, he’s arrived. That is exactly what I’ve expected from him. Finally some composure and not blasting every shot.

His third goal showed this composure that has been missing. Rather than blasting it through the crowd with his left he moved to the right and placed it nicely with his right into an open net.

Bloody Paramount Plus- was at a friends' Christmas get-together and the coverage froze literally 4 times in the second half, as a result missed the 2nd and 3rd goals from Angel

Of what I saw- excellent turnaround from the first half where they were just hanging on, and Vuck kept us in the game more or less single-handedly. Considering their missed chances and then ours in the second half, a draw is the fair result IMO. I predicted it'd take between rounds 6-10 for this (largely) new squad to really gel under MJ, and I'm glad to see it looks that way. Not sure how deep they'll go in the finals (if they make it at all) but this squad is still yet to peak...

Nice to see all the gloom and doomsaying lift from the forum.

Long way to go. But very impressive performance from what is shaping up into being a great and very well coached side. Tough ask to walk into such a major rebuild and get a team into any kind of serious form so quickly. More than a few on here owe Jackson an apology. Looks to be a high quality coach. Has the players trust and has us playing great football with real confidence. With some better finishing better we'd also be in a strong position on the ladder too. Today it was sad to see us drop two points I think we thoroughly deserved. Some of that football was sublime.

In the grandfinal, it seemed written in the stars... We were magic and they were dire. The soulless club choked while the little club that could, did. Tonight City weren't bad. We just played them off the park in the second half. Such a shame we can't just take a few more of our chances still — though it was brilliant to see Torres go on a goal rampage — and also just unfortuante that some understandably tired players made a few unforced errors.

I think MJ solved the LM problem.
Go 433.
At that point we destroyed them. Their second half goals were individual errors from a tired side.
We really need a #9. Neither Alou or Reec are ready

Yep. I actually called for the 433 previously with Steele to come in. Bunch of objections on here about Steele not offering anything and that Niz shouldn't be played forward and being better as a screener. Niz truly awesome, created, broke with pace, carried the ball forward... and on top of that having his defensive abilities added to the press helped us all but sufficate the life out of them. Again, just put one more of our many chances in and we really had them done and dusted. But not to be.

Also agree on hating City more than scum though not as much as SFC. Who can bother to summon up the energy to rail at an old enemy who just seems to be perpetually lying on the floor bleeding and moaning. Pity is probably both more insulting and appropriate.

Good times.

Disappointing to drop the 3 points but a great second half. The travel to the Philippines no doubt took it's toll in the end.

Was a gutsy performance spoiled by a few tired errors.

Only criticism would go towards Jackson through a lack of rotation in the past couple of games. Taking Millard, Brandtman, Duarte, Kasalovic, Windust, Larson and co to the Philippines to sit on the bench might have meant we had the energy to run that one out.
The Terengganu game cost is the 3 points last night.

Difference was that the Perth player went down like a love tap was actually a punch by Mike Tyson (similarly Mrcela with Beni's elbow) and forced the ref / var hand whereas Tulio stayed on his feet. Game wants to get rid of simulation but also rewards it.

And verily I say to you that the Righteous of the Coast sent a mighty host of mariners to the city of the servants of the desert dwellers and amongst that host was an angel who smote the foundations of those followers of Mammon with three mighty blows.Alas it was not sufficient to overcome those cold hearted killers and the host withdrew, unbowed and unbeaten, but ready for the next battle.

Ref also gave a yellow very quick which also in my opinion takes the VAR out of it as an on field decision has been made and then it needs to then be a clear and obvious mistake. Agree though if Tulio had gone down they may have had a better look. The fact that French germ didn’t get his second yellow for running through Tulio is the worst decision. Even Harper couldn’t believe that wasn’t a yellow.

This. Those who know say MJ and his assistant are incredibly hard working and putting in the hours to get the best out of the squad. Hopefully the improvements will continue
