ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

NSW cases jumped to 11k today. Going to be more disruptions and rubbish crowds for the foreseeable future.

I have - not only football but League and Union. Usually young players with latent undiagnosed heart weaknesses. I used to play touch football with a guy from Joeys that was on the verge of the emerging Wallabies. Collapsed with a heart attack at around 18. Had to give up hopes of a Union career.

Some details on football related deaths

While you may be referencing the mRNA vaccines a lot of heart conditions are triggered by viruses. i.e. you are much more likely to develop cardiomyopathy or pericarditis as a result of Covid or the flu than a mRNA vaccine and it is likely to be more severe.
Be careful with statements like this, there is a fair amount of data around these days that indicates the statistical risk of pericarditis/myocarditis is actually higher with the Moderna (in particular) and Pfizer vaccine than if someone catches COViD. It is particularly acute for younger men, so it’s not right to simply say there is nothing to the cases that are being seen in recent times and it needs to be properly investigated before people make sweeping claims for either position.

The evidence is for mild and transient pericarditis. There is no evidence of increased death in young people, especially in athletes and especially in footballers, therefore his comments are appropriate.

So are you saying that pericarditis/myocarditis arising from infection is permanent Mick? My understanding is that both conditions are transient and they only need to be to potentially cause an issue in someone who experiences high rates of exertion whilst suffering the condition.

The reality is that there is no clear and unequivocal science on this yet and it will take proper studies to get a better understanding.

Transient as posted. Not permanent.

Studies are ongoing but it unlikely there will be any permanent or long term damage to people given the knowledge they have already and the hundred of millions of doses given over eighteen months now. That is a robust data set.

This conversation originated from Wombat inferring that vaccines have been causing heart attacks and deaths in athletes and footballers. There isn’t, and there won’t be, any evidence to suggest that this is the case.

It will be much more than 11K. I know a few people on the Coast who probably have it and don’t want to line up for four hours because they are either sick or can’t be f**ked.
Absolutely. The labs are at capacity already as seen by the delays getting results back. And at this point the diagnosis won’t change anything they’ll still tell you to manage at home so it does raise the question why you’d bother.

Heard the story of a person sick and with incredible back pain. Called the ambulance and hospital confirmed it was Covid after tests. Was still sick and in lots of pain but discharged and asked to make her own way home.

That’s going to be the way the overloaded health system goes. For more and more non covid things too, inevitably there will be some collateral damage to real people with real problems. I just don’t understand why we walked back some restrictions 10 days out from Christmas and waved a red flag at the virus.

2/3's of the ICU cases are unvaxxed - providing that they arent immuno compromised I struggle to find a great deal of sympathy.
I know I should but if you knowingly accept the risk you kinda need to be ok with the potential consequences.
Although the right wing "libertarians" who manipulate the truly stupid are the real criminals here (looks at Craig Kelly and the like)

Where did you get that stat from?

Interested because someone else told me that as well but couldn't remember where they had heard it.

Looking at these gov stats makes me a lot more reassured, particulary cases vs deaths in the under 60's. (Doesn't seem to show vax vs unvax though unless i missed it)

Doesn't tell the full story as it doesn't account for long covid and that fact you might be an unlucky case that gets very sick, but reassuring (for me) at least that if you're under 60 you're unlikely to die.
