ALM Round 17 v the Drive Bys, sans Rudan

He's shown absolutely nothing on the pitch to warrant being picked.
He has shown nothing apart from 2 goals against the Stallions and even in that game he was constantly offside. I expected alot more but i always felt he was overated tbh.

Di Piz and Brandtman have bright futures. Kuol and Reec fight and press aggressively.....DWH does not.
A lot of rose colored glasses for what Kuol and Reec were offering back then. None of them were good. I've got no issues with Di Pizio and Brandtman getting their minutes and they deserve them. I just find it surprising in a window we've been so flat out we haven't given him even a cameo. For him to then not leave in Jan was even more surprising.

There might be a reason
He may be difficult to work with or have unreasonable wage demands.
Wilson and Paull are also on the outer and that's what the coaches get paid for.
I would have kept Bayliss and McCarthy but we are 2nd after a terrible start so their judgement seems OK to me

Is it just me or when you are stuck in a crowd with them going thru the gates there is a powerful smell of unwashed armpits and garlic?
On the topic of entry gates and Maybe a different thread for this but the tickets on phones drives me nuts especially when one person has 5 tickets on their phone and has to keep scrolling back and forth and then scanning for each person on entry. I went with the plastic card as when i had it on a phone it rarely worked but its even more annoying when i can get in easy with the card that Im stuck behind all the phone tickets and generally the attendant has to help most of them through. Its bit like being stuck behind grandma at the deli asking how much 84.32 grams of Devon costs . Actually Would love to see Larry David do an episode of Curb your enthusiasm on this.

The penalty was absolute bullshit but happy to have conned the ref for 3 points.
I agree. Their defender didn't make a move at our player. He seemed to be recovering his balance and moving away from him to get the ball when Barcellos initiated contact tackling him from behind and then fell over. If that was awarded against US, I would be filthy. Even if he saw barcellos coming [with eyes in the back of his head], cant defenders stand their ground, shield the ball, or do they have to get out of the way of an attacker now?

It looked to me like Barcellos got in front of the defender and placed his foot between the defender and the ball.

The defender then kicks Barcellos in the back of the leg and he falls down with the contact, Penalty any day of the week and if it had been given against us I wouldn't bat an eyelid...

They don't seem to be on the outer so much as they were dropped and the guys who came in have been performing better. They are still in and around Matchday squads.

Depending on how that tackle late in the game has impacted Dan their may be an opening for Paull on Thursday ??‍♂️

Paull seemed untouchable in the opening few rounds and has since barely featured, don't have a problem with this at all.

Solid backup but was never going to develop Triantis style like I'm sure the higher ups were pushing for.

I genuinely don't understand the DWH situation, by all accounts has a great attitude at training but simply can't get a look in, not saying I want him to but it baffles my mind that he clearly isn't in the coaches plans at all and yet wasn't granted a release

Cleur lost his balance stretching with Roland behind him. As he recovered Roland got in front of him and Cleur collected him. He didn't see him coming and you have to feel a bit sorry for him but it was a penalty every day of the week and I would have expected the same against us.

I see him as a Rowles style project.

Bones of a really good defender, but needs guidance and time.

I was standing up at the back of bay 18 so i had a perfect view. He threw himself at the defender and dived over his leg. It should have been a yellow card for simulation.
We have had some shockers against us over the years so we were due a bit of luck.

The other week Liverpool beat Burnley at home and despite the 3-1 scoreline I felt underwhelmed by the game. It felt as if, on another day, Burnley wouldn't have squandered some of the clear chances they got and left Anfield with a point (at least). It appears I wasn't the only one who felt this way: https://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2024...-liverpool-unspectacular-win-against-burnley/

I bring this up because it sums up my feelings about yesterday's CCM game as well. WSW looked the better team for the opening 15-20 minutes (like the SFC game CCM were a little sluggish to start) before we started going with the 'quick right pass from midfield, get upfield then find Jing in space and flick it back inside' move that almost paid off on 3 seperate occasions. Overall the quality of football was much better than the previous weekend against the Smurfs. And 3 points is 3 points, a win against WSW is a win against WSW. And a special shout-out must go to Bay 16 and most of the Mariners home fans- made consistent noise and generated a real home-crowd atmosphere against one of the biggest/ loudest away contingents we get in Gosford (curious to hear how it sounds on the TV coverage when I watch it back later). Also shout-out to the guy with the akubra hat in one of the private boxes on the lower side of the Eastern stand- with a dozen empty tinnies lined up along the overhead girder, getting chants started. You know who you are.

BUT- apart from Doka's penalty, I really wanted to see another late goal from open play in front of Bay 16, just to ram it home against that lot and make a statement. And it didn't happen, so I left feeling like a game that promised at least one screamer of a goal, ended up delivering no such thing. Like a song that sounds like it's going to turn into a banger but never gets out of second gear (Great Southern Land by Icehouse or You Only Get What You Give by New Radicals come to mind). Like the 2008 GF where we were all at the KB, full of booze and anticipation and singing in the sunshine, only to walk up to the SFS and discover the GF had been cancelled.

Am I spoilt?

I agree. Barcellos got a toe to the ball too it looked like? It's the most certain pen you'll see all year. You can't kick people in the back of the ankle, it's never a dive

That's exactly what happened. It seems harsh but it gets given all the time.

there was no foul.....its not "no contact" in the box. It was a dive pure and simple. A Neymar special. Anyways, Doka took an excellent penalty so hopefully that will build his confidence.
