Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. Number of comments on the impact of the heavy schedule on Saturday, but it doesn't end there, especially if we can keep going in the AFC cup. Jacko is going to have to be better with squad rotation than he has been and we are going to need a good run with injuries.

The upcoming fixtures assuming AFC progress are (with days since the previous game shown):
Tue 13 Feb: Phnom Penh (H) 3 days
Sun 18 Feb: WSW (H) 5 days
Thu 22 Feb: Bulls or Sabah (A) 4 days
Sun 25 Feb: Vuck (A) 3 days
Sat 2 Mar: Jets (A) 6 days
Thu 7 Mar: Odisha (H) 5 days
Sat 9 Mar: Bulls (A) 2 days
Thu 14 Mar: Odisha (A) 5 days
Sat 17 Mar: City (H) 3 days

So including the SFC game, that is 10 games in 37 days.

We then get the luxury of a 2 week break (International window), but if we are still going in the AFC cup then we have 7 games in the next 28 days up to and including the end of the A League season. The AFC cup final clashes with the first week of the A League finals, so top 2 (and a week off) is imperative if we keep going in the cup.

We are a genuine shot at 3 trophies but that means playing a game every 4 days outside of the international window for the rest of the season - the fact that we are going for all 3 could itself mean we finish up with nothing because of too many games.

I think the injury risk is the greater problem since there is no recovery time. Monitoring the players work loads and having lighter training sessions and avoiding travel are the biggest problems. Hopefully the game on the 22/2 is at Macarthur. The rest of the travel is relatively light until Odisha on 14/3 - Melbourne on 25/2 being the only other non NSW travel.

Assuming the game would finish too late on the Thursday to make any progress on the return trip on that day, so we would be setting off back on the Friday morning and arriving in Melbourne on the day of the game against City.

Playing so many games close together makes me wonder if the APL actually cares if Aus teams progress in these comps. None of the last two weeks is a good lead in to the play off tomorrow. It will be very hard to keep any momentum with so many potential games close together.

Great points. One change to the starting line up for the 3 games (Ade-welly-syd) we just had doesn't bode well. Hopefully Jacko learns from it. Another unchanged side would be madness.

I thought the prize money only started for the zonal champions; i.e. we would have to beat Bulls (or Sabah) next week as well to get into the cash?
