Announcement at noon but news is reporting West Melbourne approved for next season and south West Sydney the season after.
West Melbourne.... Just ... Why? ? Unlike West Sydney they don't really have a strong regional identity that I've ever heard. Geelong isn't west Melbourne. This is terrible. Nobody wants West Melbourne and it won't increase interest across the fan base

Dandenong has 200k less people than the Central Coast.

I hope that the SWS team drop the South West aspect and utilise the Macarthur in naming the club.

I'd go with the simple Macarthur United, which they themselves stated they were a bid that would 'unite' the communities within & outlying the Macarthur region.

I can already picture in my minds eye a player being interviewed saying;
" yeah, we're up against 'Mac United' next Rnd so should be a tough game'

Just like 'Man United', the locals down there will likely gravitate to a similar moniker refering to their own team the same way ...... if given the chance.

Mariners legend Hutchinson heads back to A-League with Western Melbourne
16x9_medium

A-League newcomers Western Melbourne will imminently announce Central Coast Mariners legend John Hutchinson as the latest addition to their coaching team.

The move comes hot on the heels of the fledgling outfit’s unveiling of Bentleigh Greens’ NPL heavyweight John Anastasiadis as an assistant to their yet-to-be-appointed head coach.

With their entry into an 11-team competition just nine months away, Gippsland-born Hutchinson - coach of Seattle Sounders’ second team since last January after a stint as Mariners assistant - is understood to have accepted the offer to come home.

The Sounders 2 play in the second-tier USL, with Hutchinson, 39, joining the franchise as a first team assistant nearly two years ago.

The former Malta international made a record 228 appearances during his ten years in Gosford, and captained the club to their solitary A-League championship in 2013 when they dispatched Western Sydney Wanderers in the grand final.

While Western Melbourne have Hutchinson in the bag, their dogged pursuit of Celtic skipper Scott Brown has yet to deliver their man, with the 33-year-old midfielder also offered a contract extension by the Bhoys.

Brown, who is off contract in June after 11 trophy-laden years with the Hoops, is understood to have been offered a lucrative two-year deal by WMG, with the option of a third season.

Celtic are prepared to extend for a further year - leaving Brown with a difficult decision to make.

It’s one that Western Melbourne believe may yet fall in their favour, despite reports in Scotland he is more likely to remain in Glasgow.

I think Hutch has his eyes firmly set on where he wants to get to.

Happy for him to go to WM.

He’s not ready to return as the prodigal son and lead us into an era of unprecedented A league dominance.

But he will return. (#coastlife is too good)

Western Melbourne announce club name and colours
Western United will be the name of the A-League's 11th club, and it will play in the unorthodox colours of green and black.

A two-week fan survey helped club chiefs to decide on the key elements of the club's identity, unveiled on Wednesday.

Western United won out despite Western Athletic being the early favourite for the incoming club's moniker.

Western Melbourne Warriors and the catchy Westside Pride were other contenders.

Football boss Steve Horvat said the decisions meant "this week the club proper has been born".

"It will no longer be a consortium or a bid. We don't have to refer to a group any more, we can refer to ourselves as a club," he told News Corp.

The bid was chosen as the A-League's next side last December ahead of a team based out of Dandenong.

That franchise, which still hopes to be admitted to the competition in further expansion waves, will now need to search for new colours after using black and green in its promotional material.

Western United has yet to secure a stadium deal for next season but has two players on its books ahead of its October debut.

This week, Socceroos right back Josh Risdon decided to trade Western Sydney for the west of Melbourne.

Risdon, 26, said he was "absolutely stoked" to become the first Australian to join the ambitious side after they announced Greek international Panagiotis Kone as an inaugural marquee.

"With the signing of Panagiotis as the marquee, I can see the club has big ambitions both on the park and off it," he said.

WESTERN UNITED: WORK IN PROGRESS
Chiefs: Lou Sticca, Maurice Bisetto

Football director: Steve Horvat

Coach: TBC

Assistant coaches: John Anastasiadis, JOHN HUTCHINSON

Players: Panagiotis Kone (marquee), Josh Risdon

Stadium: TBC

Two descriptives and no geographic location, genius.

West Melbourne

West Melbourne United
Western Melbourne Athletic

All obviously better. But no, Western Hemisphere United it is. Amazing,
