Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. IIRC, the club was hoping to turn the first sod in construction by end of 2009.
But since the initial euphoria surrounding the announcement of this venture, there's been one big muther cluster f**k of a credit crisis worldwide.
That shouldn't stop the preliminary planning and approvals stages, but by end 2009, they'll be hoping to have all the prior approval stuff done and that's when they need credit/loans/overdrafts etc...
Representatives from the Mariners and some players are going to information meetings on tonight at Club Tuggerah (6.00pm) & at Wyong RSL (7.30pm) to inform club members about the joint venture and the Centre of Excellence progress.

Peter Turnbull, Bob Graham, the architects and Wyong RSL directors were there.
Peter Turnbull advised that the development application went in this week and that they're expecting work to start in January 2010.
They're hoping to have the 2 training fields built on council land as soon as possible. If EVERYTHING falls into place perfectly (which rarely happens), the 2 training fields could be ready this November. Peter made a point of the fact that the Mariners train at several different grounds during the year and that this is not good enough for a professional football team. He is very much looking forward to the team having a proper home and the identity that comes with that.
The architects brought the latest drawings (some dated early June) with renderings and the like. The scheme still looks like the original plan presented at Wyong RSL last December. A couple of differences were noted including integration of the entrance directly with the Bryant Drive/Wyong Road roundabout with a smaller roundabout on the club land presumably to control speed of traffic entering the carpark. The 3000 seat grandstand incorporates a museum (Perhaps for all our trophies and perhaps Brownies new home LOL) and there were only 4 fields in total rather than the 6 or 7 (??) that were shown previously.
All in all a very positive presentations from Peter Turnbull, Bob Graham (who reiterated the full support of the Council) and the RSL who have since had a change in committee. Work on the entire development to be completed in mid 2011, just in time for the 2012 world cup

Precisely what is wrong with this forum; pick the obvious mistake in my post rather than enjoy the fact we're still on track to have the best training facility of any A-League team in the very near future.
