Ailing Jets battling illness ahead of final A-League hit-out with arch rivals Central Coast

Jets coach Arthur Papas is unsure who will be fit for Saturday's clash with the Mariners on the Central Coast after illness has swept through the squad.

More than half of the squad which thumped Macarthur 3-0 in Campbelltown on Sunday had been struck with sickness.

By Wednesday night's final home game of the season, in which Newcastle came from behind to draw 1-1 with Western United, most players had been affected.
It prompted several changes to the starting XI and match-day 18 and Papas said post-match on Wednesday that Jets staff would spend the following two days assessing players before a quick turnaround to face arch rivals Central Coast away on Saturday.

....But who Papas will have at his disposal on Saturday is not yet known. That includes star midfielder Daniel Penha, who has served a two-game suspension and has also been linked to Sydney FC for next season.
"I'm not really sure at the moment," Papas said when asked if Penha would start against the Mariners.
"He's also been quite ill throughout the week. So, even though he was suspended, he probably wouldn't have fronted up for any of those games anyway amongst a group of guys who are all battling the same thing. We'll just see how everyone pulls up.
"We're hopefully at the back end of it. Symptom-wise everyone is a bit fluey and just not feeling great and energy very low, so just trying to get bodies on the park at the moment."
I’m calling bullshit

Home final on the line, if fit they should start and look to manage game time if the result is there.
Home final, might make all the difference in progressing. Adelaide a good chance of dropping points to WTFU.. Surprised anyone considers this a dead rubber. I think it's another BIG game for us.
Ozhammer... 15 is amazing. Well done mate. I was proud of 10. Should be a great crowd :overheadl:

Tell him he's dreaming! I reckon 9k and that'd be awesome. More likely to be 6 or 7 but I'm also feeling optimistic, people love a freebie! Might not be that many kids though for a late game.
We had 5+ to Western. So I think we'll be comfortably over 10k.

Heard of one bring a mate spreadsheet having 120 babes of people interested in going. Has anyone heard of people recruiting this number? I think this promotion will bring heaps through the gate
Jesus christ that's a lot of babies. And given all their mums will have to go to... should be a good crowd. if a little prone to sleeping, crying and shitting their pants.

This is what I keep seeing and experiencing. I do think the crowd and atmosphere are going to be one of the best we've seen in a decade. Such a smart promotion, and it's great to know the club (Monty) plans to treat this as an all to play for game
The Club has got it right. My fear is Gema ruining the experience for some by being stuck in a beer line for half a game!!
