R2 - Central Coast Mariners vs Macarthur FC at home

Wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity.
More central and 5 or 10 m closer and he's off
Looking at it on replay it was a bit further across the pitch than I had though live so I’ll agree there, probably the main saving grace. The way he scampers and gets on to the ball with his second movement is the most damning bit for me - definitely think that part was red worthy it’s not just a simple slip he’s made it worse than it was.

Couldn’t spot nizzys or the hand ball call on a scroll through the mini match so I’ll take others word for it.

Side note - on that second goal Baccus was never marked at all. Looks like it was Wilson’s man.

We have a problem wing our wide left player, Wilson appears to have lost all confidence and Theo is not fit enough.

The first goal from the moment we lost the ball Theo should have been tracking back, further he is taking to long to pass the ball, always trying to beat two or three players.

For me I would put Storm back as right back and move Rodrigues to left wing, yes I know he is a right footed .... but is either him or Smith, or leave Smith as left back and move Farrell up the park.

Wilson was shit.
Paull needs time on the pine.
Smith needs to get his confidence back.
Theo and Torres had go forward but no plan.
Kuol wasn't getting any feed.
DWH and Tulio need to stop standing back to goal.
Steel was non existent.

To much jockeying in defence, no impetus in attack.

Thank Christ for Kaltak, Nizzy and Vuk.

P.s Ref was attrocious, wasn't the reason we lost, but indecisive, and made some poor calls
Was that honestly 7 minutes extra time, Methcarthur swallowed it all up with their fakery and the abysmal ref did not compensate for time wasted by extending extra time. Hey it's Methcarthur and their usual unsportsmenlike behaviour particularly that ratbag with the band around his nut! I was really hoping not seeing him again but alas who else would have him and there he remains.

It was. But he leaves him to challenge the player that wins the ball off the golden boy who doesn’t even try an recover. Poor clearing header off the edge of the box as well.

Maybe have a look where the left cb was. Smith had 2 to deal with. Paul the other side of Kaltak

Edit. I was talking first goal
Paul had to go out to close down the ball. Not sure where our RB was and kaltak was behind the ball recovering back to the middle.

Hall/Windust are like for like as is Steele/Balard
I'm not a fan of this opinion, which I've seen multiple people tout. In my book Balard is now 30% more of a player than Steele. A season or 2 ago they were on par but Balard has developed beyond Steele. He's part of what we were missing today.

My greatest concern at the moment is for all the talk of having competition for places, there isn't. We've got a decent starting 11 and a bunch of young boys backing up those positions. Lose too many of the starting eleven in any one game and we're in the shit. It's not depth if the difference in quality/ experience is so profound.

Train this team too hard at your peril. We already have extra AFC workload.

Maybe a change of sides.
This is a good idea. It's also on the coach, who seems to lack ideas. If we're getting no joy switch Torres and Theo for a while, what's the worst that can happen? Or switch Wilson and Torres.... honestly the shit Wilson is getting he should be played in his natural position for at least 20 mins just to get the fans off his back. He's clearly doing a job for us the coach has asked him to do and a lot of the shit he's copping must feel unfair.

Best part of game was Nizz giving back after the penalty shout and all the boys coming in for the handbags. Love it
You know how you get a drone with a Lazer to fly over and 'paint the target' before the bombers flatten it...! That was Niz pointing at the McArthur player!

Just a thought now that I have cooled down somewhat post-game and whilst I get all the angst, we are all forgetting how disrupted the boys’ pre season preparation was.

Also we only got an assistant coach last week and still have no goalkeeper coach. Hopefully, things will start to settle down in the coming weeks.
An assistant who was sacked after reaching the giddy heights of 18th in league 2.

It’s a 100% correct opinion.

Yes max is a better player in the role than Steele, but they are the same style of player.

It’s not like either one of them drives out of midfield with a dribble or sprays raking passes to all corners. They both sit in and move the ball sideways with the occasional ball into the striker.

Wilson isn't a wide player. He's a central player. He's being played out of position because we don't have the right balance in the squad. Torres to the left and DiPizio on the right.

Just watched the mini to see if it felt the same. Dominated the first 15 and looked good but as soon they got organised it went to shit. Kurto earnt them 3 points with 3 huge saves. Absolutely burnt us.

Some adjustments to our attack and it should click.

Probs would like to see Jacko do what Monty did and tinker each week till he finds the combo. We played hot and cold till Xmas last year, let's not forget that
