Or give Garang a go in triangle midfield.

I think a lot of last year we actually played a 4231 in attack with Urena acting as a 10. I think we could easily adapt to a player as an actual designated 10.

I find the event distasteful as well. Sydney received a distinct advantage by having so many supporters behind the goals.

I was told that I couldn’t go to the other end because I had an active Mariners ticket and had to stay in that end. When I told them that I had a general admission ticket and it could should it to them I was still told no.
Hey all,

Going to put what happened last night re: penalty shootout here to try and sort all this out and clarify the situation for you all.

I was informed during the 2nd half of ET that the penalty shootout was going to be at the other end and was told that CCM fans were going to be allowed a distance along the hill but not the whole way since the cove was going to head to behind the goals. The aim of this was to stop potential anger between the two groups of fans. I was told that this was communicated to security and they would prepare a line that would basically be the separation between two groups of fans.

when it came to the whistle, it became clear that security weren't aware what to do, and it fell on me and my colleague from Sydney to try and hold the fans moving across whilst security got their act together. During this time a CCM fan, I did not see who, was stopped by the Sydney FC official. This was said to be aggressive at the time, but when speaking to him after he said he put his hand up to stop him and didn't push him but we both understood in the situation it could look that way.

After this happened majority of CCM fans started heading up on the grass and around and with security not doing anything, myself and the sydney colleague let it happen and i believe now he went to check on the barrier that was being set up at the corner - this barrier i did not know about.

A minute or so later i saw someone being taken out by 2 security, this i assume was you @Huddo?
I was informed this was because you tried to rip the barrier away to get past.

There was very much a lack of organization here by the FA and security which meant myself and my colleague at Sydney were put in a very uncomfortable situation here which resulted in a couple of scenarios that shouldn't have occurred. Sydney I am sure are going to be having a frank conversation with the security about this to make sure it is never repeated.

If the penalties had been at the other end due to the coin toss, i believe there would have been something done to create a gap between us and the cove. In the end a gap of sorts was maintained and there was no issues from Sydney or CCM Supporters against each other that i saw or was made aware of.

Was this a ploy to get more sydney support than ccm behind the goal? maybe. but i can also see what they were trying to do and why they were trying to do it.

@marinermick and @Huddo I am sorry for how it went down last night. Mick we had a chat after and I am glad you are all good. I will make sure in a situation like that further down the line there is a more concrete plan in place for our fans to enjoy the game.

Thanks everyone who travelled down and will see you all soon I'm sure.

It's a forum mate. You and I can comment on posts as long as we don't get too derogatory or abusive.Of course Sozer,Aquilina and Triantis aren't yet at the level of the three terrific players you named and may never reach their level but Sozer and Triantis did look AL standard to me,Aquilina not on today's performance.

I remember there was a forumite who thought Kye Rowles was the pits and regularly dissed his perfomances a couple of seasons ago.I am not saying that was you but it does demonstrate that player assessments by forumites can be too hasty and ill judged.
Lost like 250 AL appearances, replaced by a handful.
Sydney is the best at exposing our structures weakness but it took them a few beltings to work us out but you could see them working over the holes and if they had better finishing they could have had more in the 1st half. Our midfield was non existent and the wings didn’t come back and help. There was no link between defense and our attack when going forward. Disappointing play but great fighting spirit and a bit to work on in preseason.

Stormy steadied things nicely

Hall had a shocker

Cumdingo what a header.

We will be competitive this season
Probs take us 10-12 rounds again to click. Hopefully not but these combos take time.

I think this will be reasonably accurate. Can't say I see Kuol forcing Ruhs or Beni out at this point. I expect RB will be up in the air and a new senior CB would benefit Aquilina's chances of settling into it. Feel like he has a higher ceiling than Roux but the base has to improve. Triantis will be all over Hall for the other starting spot if Dan has too many games like the last one but he'll get the benefit of the doubt for now.

Cheers mate, all good. Still think your Sydney FC counterpart acted very unprofessionally.

Thought security were suitably constrained given the lack of communication to them.

Big shout out to you Shandy, you gave me and a mate a free ticket out the front, and I appreciate the organisation you keep throwing at the club. A true clubman.

Just a clarification to the eviction. I was already in the apparently enclosed area when I noticed the fence go up. I went back to chat to the seckies, they told me it was safety, there was no-one on the right hand side at the north end, bar 20 odd Mariners supporters already.

The north side has a natural partition just like the south. My expectation is if it was at the south end, Syd FC would be on one side and Mariners on the other, so why is it different on the north?

In all honesty I knew I was going to given the flick when I I removed the partition, and I was compliant when I was removed (still very vocal though). My issue is even if it was communicated as a safety issue, It seemed pretty stupid noting there was already multiple mariners supporters in the partitioned area.

At the end of the day I shouldn't have moved the partition, but a partition in the corner was ridiculous in the scheme of things noting the position of our supporters on both sides of it.

Very unlikely - the suspended 3 points were for their Academy sides in a FNSW operated competition, with the Australia Cup round of 32 and beyond being operated by Football Australia (or possibly the APL ?‍♂️) so I don’t believe the penalty carries across.
youd also need some pretty solid proof linking the people involved (and then they'd be banned & probably visited by the police anyway) and RBB members for any hope of a sanction to stick.

Whilst disappointed in the result at 3 - 1 I thought it was all over so to fight back like that was good to see. I hope we didn’t practice pens because other than Max they were terrible.

I feel the team was very experimental with a few surprising starters. I’m not going to be all that critical and it’s obvious to see where we need more experience and work. As many have mentioned. Shame our Cup is now finished as I enjoy being part of it as a comp and you get to watch additional games but not this year.

Was great to watch a game but shame it’s still months until the season starts.

I think this game just confirmed what was already known. We need experienced leaders.

We didn't have anyone to settle Dan Hall down after his first yellow. We didn't have anyone who could wrestle back control of the game, and our team, in the first half.

All the players on the pitch were more than capable of beating Sydney. We more than proved that by coming back with a man down and pushing to penalties.

All we need is a couple of experienced heads. To know when to calm things down. To know when to have a quick word to a young player eager to make up for their mistake.

Our young side is as good as any other in this league they just need an on field leader to make them a force.

Yep, bang on.

I thought the team did amazingly well to come back from 3-1 but a hard, experienced head might have meant we never went down in teh first place.

Agree heartily on the leadership JP, but tbf not as convinced on our prowess yet... Sydney really could have had 5 or 6. So we got lucky if I'm being honest.

Showed plenty of fight which is always nice. I actually like our signings, just Aquilina had a rough night. But he's a young footballer so way too early to make a call. But Storm did very well and helped balance us in attack. I also liked Sozer. Surprised people weren't more optimistic about him. Jok and Trapp did well. Triantis too. Kuol is a gun but he needs space and opportunity.

As mentioned, unfortunately we lacked almost total midfield control, and yes most teams utilise the extra man in midfield, but our wide players once again struggled to find any time and space. Beni usually gets through a mound of defensive work and I thought Ruys was a force, so that's promising. Steeley does not (at least for now) have either the ball skills or physical presence we need to contain sides or play out through sustained pressure. As others have said, Niz would help, but I also wouldn't mind a big enforcer with a decent passing range myself. Max is doing great, but Niz is still the more complete footballer for mine.

I would like to see if Hall can handle right back.... I see at this early stage RB is our difficult area ... Aquilina only one game so hard to drop him this early but if he fails we need a back up ... not a bench player stepping in...
