ccmfans.net is the Central Coast Mariners fan community, and was formed in 2004, so basically the beginning of time for the Mariners. Things have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained constant and that is our love of the Mariners. People come and go, some like to post a lot and others just like to read. It's up to you how you participate in the community!

If you want to get rid of this message, simply click on Join Now or head over to https://www.ccmfans.net/community/register/ to join the community! It only takes a few minutes, and joining will let you post your thoughts and opinions on all things Mariners, Football, and whatever else pops into your mind. If posting is not your thing, you can interact in other ways, including voting on polls, and unlock options only available to community members.

ccmfans.net is not only for Mariners fans either. Most of us are bonded by our support for the Mariners, but if you are a fan of another club (except the Scum, come on, we need some standards), feel free to join and get into some banter.

Sydney to host the Grand Final next 3 years

Is it just me or does anyone else think $10 million to lock in 3 years of grand finals is a little light? Sounds more like 3-5 years of taking a CCM game to Mudgee. How does this keep the league "financially viable long term"? Did they miss a zero?

$12m but yes. At ~300k a club a year. Seems unders.

How was being on kayo better for growing the league when they had absolutely zero desire to keep it, let alone put any sort of half-decent offer forward?
Because the un-converted Australian sports fan could watch it on Kayo? Absolutely nobody who wasn't already a pre-established A-League fan is watching it on Paramount+ now. How do you expect to gain new fans now? Isn't that what growing the league means?

I was saying this at the time, don't need no benefit of hindsight? How was this not obvious to everyone?

Just saw the Cove’s response. Very disappointing.

Their decision is to be silent for 23 minutes. That essentially means they will have the run of the atmosphere in the second half, after the Yellow Army walks out, which will crucially affect the on field play.
Don't walk out then. Don't betray your team over something that has nothing to do with them.

If you walk out and we lose because it crucially affects on field play, don't sook when we lose.

You’ve completely omitted the part of my post where I said “It wasn’t an option [to stay with fox/kayo], and they showed their clear disdain for the league in the dying months of their broadcast agreement.” They didn’t want the rights, and any offer they made was massive unders and would have killed the league. I’ve been quite vocal about Paramount’s issues but fact of the matter is trying to beg Kayo to keep us was going to send the league so far backwards it would never have recovered.

It’s not betraying the team. The club and the players are fully aware and back the decision.
Where have the club and players said that they are fully aware of the plans and back their fans walking out? I might’ve missed it if they’ve said that.

This has absolutely nothing to do with our team. Why would you walk out on them instead of being there to support them in their game of football?

No I get that. Kayo didn’t really want it. That’s why I was just responding to the question of how being on Kayo was better.

The fact Kayo didn’t want it doesn’t change how bad the deal is and how much better off the game was to grow when it was on Kayo than it is now. I get there wasn’t many alternatives but it doesn’t change how ridiculously bad a deal it was always gonna be, other than the cash injection.

I talk to club staff and players on a pretty regular basis. They know this isn’t about them, and totally understand and appreciate the bigger picture at play here. Shaun says as much on the latest podcast episode which has just dropped.
They know they’re not being walked out on; this is all directed at the APL, with whom the players and staff are just as frustrated as us.

Even if that’s the case, if as marinermick said, they run the atmosphere after the 23rd minute and it significantly impacts the on field play, I still see that as basically betraying the team and yourself if you care about the results of the team.

. i think the point you have missed is that Kayo would have needed to produce the coverage. it is not like buying the rights to a sport already produced elsewhere - they would have to do the lot ... and all indications were that they were unwilling

. no production = no new fans

We went from a 5pm ABC game to a prime time match of the round on 10 - now changed to 2 games on 10 bold. I’d argue that’s pretty accessible for new fans. Kayo was good for those that have it though.

The amount of cameras definitely dropped at the end of the Foxtel deal. Bugger all cross promotion, even had watermarks prompting people to switch to the cricket.

May I say that I thought @Shaun Mielekamp was exceptional on the pod and deserves the opportunity to have a bigger voice in the game.
Contrast his passion and honesty with the scomo like spin from the APL
We can disagree on occasion but you can't argue that he cares.
Top work

Totally agree. Maybe Shaun should be APL CEO. He is also a good bloke but also competent
